GILMER –
A head-on crash in Upshur county has taken the lives of a 53-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy. It happened on Farm to Market Road 852 east of Lake Gilmer at around 1PM Monday. A full-sized SUV was driven by a 16-year-old boy from Gilmer and in the vehicle were 16 -year-old girl and 17-year-old boy, all from Gilmer. Coming the other way on FM-852 was a mid-sized pickup driven by 53-year-old Ignacio Gonzales. Also in the truck was an 11-year-old boy. The SUV crossed over the center stripe on the road and slammed into the pickup, killing both people on board. The investigation is continuing.
TYLER – East Texas State Rep. Jay Dean of Longview said that BlueCross BlueShield of Texas and CHRISTUS Health have extended their current contract until Aug. 1, 2025. “CHRISTUS and BlueCross BlueShield of Texas have extended their current contract to August 1 while they continue negotiating,” Dean said. “I’ve been working with both parties to come to a reasonable conclusion to protect patients of East Texas!”
The Teacher Retirement System of Texas’ ActiveCare BlueCross BlueShield website confirmed that the contract has been extended until Aug. 1.
“We have a long and positive relationship with CHRISTUS Health, but you are our priority,” the website said. “We want to reach an agreement that will continue to give you access to CHRISTUS Health doctors, facilities and hospitals at fair prices.”
TYLER – The City of Tyler said in a press release, that construction crews will be working on roadway base repairs on East Rieck Road. The project started Monday June 30 and will run through Monday, July 7. City officials said the route of the construction is East Rieck Road between South Broadway Avenue and New Copeland Road. They add, there will be some lane closures, and drivers should expect 10 to 15 minute delays.
UPDATE: KAUFMAN COUNTY — According to the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, four people are dead, two are critically injured and several others have sustained injuries following the seven vehicle crash on I-20 westbound near Kaufman County. The injured passengers were taken to Dallas area hospitals for treatment.
According to our news partner KETK, three 18-wheelers and four passenger vehicles were involved and the cause of this crash is unknown at this time. The fire department said that I-20 westbound is still closed and is expected to remain closed for several hours.
A multi-vehicle crash in the Kaufman County Saturday caused lane closures and traffic to back up on I-20. According to the Elmo Fire Department, injuries were sustained during a five vehicle crash including two 18-wheelers near Mile Marker 505 on I-20, between Terrell and Myrtle Springs. Eastbound lanes are closed
Elmo Fire Department is encouraging drivers to exit 512 westbound and find a different route. Texas Department of Transportation live cameras show that all westbound lanes are closed at Kaufman County Road 126. DriveTexas with TXDOT says estimated cleanup time on Saturday is 9 p.m.
Details about the injuries are unknown and updates will be made as more information is gathered.
TYLER – The University of Texas at Tyler will host the “Red, White & Recruited: Careers in Healthcare and Higher Education” job fair.
