TYLER –
One of three people charged with killing an Tyler U.S. Army Veteran in February of 2023 has been sentenced to life in prison on Thursday, according to our news partners at KETK. Herbert Simpson, 56, Stephanie Brasher and Anthony Taylor were charged with capitol murder in August of 2023 after Warren Edward Rogers, 61 of Tyler, was found dead in his home with a gunshot wound. On Thursday, Dec. 12, a jury found Simpson guilty of capital murder by terror threat or other felony and he was sentenced to life in prison, according to Smith County judicial records. Brasher and Taylor currently have no cases listed by Smith County judicial records.

UPDATE: The two missing boys have been found safe.
The Tyler Police Department has issued an AMBER Alert in the search for a 3-year-old boy and a 4-year-old boy who were reported missing on Friday. Legend Sandford, 3, and Kannon O’Neal, 4, were last seen at the Evergreens Apartments located at 4123 S Park Dr in Tyler at around 10 p.m. on Thursday. Legend was last seen wearing a blue Paw Patrol shirt and black, red and white pants and Kannon was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants with blue and red stripes. Legend is described as a 3’9? tall Black child with brown eyes and brown hair who weighs around 42 pounds. Kannon is described as 3’2? tall Black child with brown eyes and brown hair who weighs around 35 pounds and he has a scar on his forehead, a scar behind his right ear, a right ear piercing and a gap between his teeth, according to the AMBER Alert. CHEROKEE COUNTY –
Our news partners at KETK report the Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association has announced they’re planning an 8-hour power outage on Tuesday, Dec. 17. The outage will start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday so the cooperative can upgrade the electrical distribution system in Southeast Troup, Blackjack and Concord. Cooperative officials said that they’ll need access to every transformer. If the weather is inclement on Tuesday, officials said that they’ll push the outage to the next day of clear weather. Anyone with questions during the outage is asked to call 903-683-2248.
HENDERSON COUNTY — A state trooper has been arrested after allegedly forcing himself into an East Texas house demanding to see a girl. According to an arrest affidavit and our news partner KETK, officials were dispatched to a house on County Road 2507 in Eustace on Dec. 1 at around 3:16 a.m. due to a possible burglary. When authorities arrived to the address, they spoke with an individual who claimed an unknown man wearing a grey hoodie showed up at his house and showed him a badge stating he was a state trooper. The trooper reportedly demanded to know where his niece was.
The man, later identified as Jacob McKeon, a state trooper from Ellis County, pushed the individual to the side and entered the house without permission. McKeon allegedly walked into the rooms waking up the parents in the house. Read the rest of this entry »

For the fifth consecutive year, the United Way of Smith County hosted Tyler Gives, a local Giving Tuesday fundraiser benefiting United Way’s partnering nonprofits. This year’s campaign brought in $214,460 through online donations on December 3rd. Event sponsor Express Employment Professionals and the United Way matched the first $50,000 donated beginning at 8 a.m., and another $25,000 at 2 p.m., bringing the total to an impressive $289,460 that will be allocated by year’s end. MARSHALL –
A historic church in downtown Marshall is destroyed following an early morning fire. According to our news partners t KETK, no one was injured during the significant structure fire Monday morning. “Please keep this church congregation in your prayers,” church officials said. “God has amazing plans ahead.” The church, that usually holds worship every Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m., is located on 300 East Houston St. According to the church’s website, it was established around 1839.
SULPHUR SPRINGS –
On Wednesday, CHRISTUS Health broke ground on a new 11,000 square-foot multi-specialty clinic in Sulphur Springs. According to our news partner KETK, the new Clinic will be located next to the CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital on Airport Road. The $25 million expansion will house specialists in gastroenterology, interventional pain and orthopedics along with laboratory and imaging services.
“We have seen unbelievable growth in our hospital, clinics, and the overall need for specialized care in our community,” Hospital President Paul Harvey said. “This new facility allows us to expand our reach, see more patients in a timely manner and provide access to quality care close to home.”

TYLER – The Children’s Park of Tyler is having its annual “Christmas in the Park” on Saturday, December 14th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 110 East Dobbs Street. This free event will feature light displays throughout the park and Christmas carols around a decorated tree. Also featured, will be craft activities, a photo booth, and s’mores by the fire. The park will also provide its signature Snowman Soup and a bounce house for children to enjoy.

LONGVIEW – The former head boys basketball coach of Cumberland Academy has been arrested for having an improper relationship with a student and possession of child pornography. According to our news partner KETK, 26-year-old Devin Anderson of Manor was arrested by Kilgore Police on Dec 2. Anderson, was the head boys basketball coach of Cumberland Academy in Tyler last season. He is currently listed as varsity assistant basketball and head cross country coach at Elgin High School. Anderson was released from jail on Tuesday, Dec. 3 after he posted a $55,000 bond.

A Tyler man has been sentenced to federal prison for counterfeit documents scheme in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs. Juan Carlos Rodriguez, Sr., 50, pleaded guilty to fraud and misuse of visas, permits, and other documents and was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge J.
