Authorities arrest suspect in Palestine murderPALESTINE — Palestine police arrested a suspect early Saturday morning after he allegedly shot and killed a man in Palestine. According to our news partner KETK, investigators answered a call on North Jackson Street where they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds outside of a residence. He was taken to a local hospital where he died later. Detectives identified the suspect as 40-year-old Julio Castillo-Machado of Palestine. They say the victim, who has not been named, and the suspect knew each other and have had an ongoing feud. Castillo is in the Anderson County jail on a murder charge, with a bond set at $800,000.

Anonymous donor pays tab for East Texas college graduatesMARSHALL (AP) — Officials at Wiley College in East Texas say students graduating from the historically Black college were told at their commencement ceremony that an anonymous donor had paid their balances. Wiley College said in a news release that over 100 students were gathered for graduation Saturday when the school’s president made the announcement. The college said in the news release that the estimated total for the balances owed to the college by the graduating class of 2022 was about $300,000.

According to our news partner KETK, two projects will be handled: a rebuild of Hubbard Middle School and a creation of an college prep high school. The bond passed with 64 percent of the vote. However in Longview, it was a “no” vote on the Longview ISD school bond proposal. Money asked for was nearly 230 million dollars. That would have been used for LHS campus renovation, a new Early childhood campus, an Events Center and assorted updates and repairs. The bond was defeated by 67 percent of the vote. Tyler police hunt for alleged shooter of two 13-year-old girlsTYLER — The search is over for a suspect in the shooting of two 13-year-old girls around 8 o’clock Saturday night in North Tyler. Tyler police reported Monday that 17-year-old Jaqualin Xavier Humphrey of Tyler turned himself in to members of the U.S. Marshal’s Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force. He was arrested and booked into Smith County Jail on five warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to our news partner KETK, investigators on the scene, after multiple interviews with witnesses, identified Humphrey as the suspected gunman. Police reports say the two girls were passengers in a car with several other juveniles when they were shot. Detectives said the girls were in stable condition.

Officer involved shooting injures a Smith County manFLINT — A man was shot by Smith County Sheriff’s deputies early Sunday morning after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers. According to our news partner KETK, the incident happened early Sunday morning in Flint on Highway 69 in a parking lot. At that time a deputy responded to a call of a firearm discharge. They encountered 25-year-old Jackson Lee Davis of Flint. Reports say Davis had a book in one hand and an unidentified object in the other. According to our news partner KETK, officers responded to a shooting call on Fourteenth Street on Sunday around 5:45 p.m. 38-year-old Jeremy Willis of Longview was found outside with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Police say that the motive and circumstances are still under investigation. In the other case, first responders found one victim unconscious on South Twelfth Street early Saturday morning. 27-year-old Deraymond Horton of Longview was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Texas Rangers Investigate officers involved in Anderson County shootingANDERSON COUNTY – The Texas Rangers are investigating a shooting of an Anderson County man. According to our news partner KETK, Anderson County Sheriff deputies answered a disturbance call late Friday night in rural Anderson county. There officers found 34-year-old Dave Ismaili Gonzales Jr. armed with a gun. He was agitated and confronted deputies. This went on for several minutes, with Gonzales refusing to drop the weapon. When he aimed his gun at deputies, they responded with force fearing for their lives. Gonzales was shot several times. He was then taken to Palestine for immediate medical care, then transferred to a Tyler hospital. Gonzales remains in stable condition.

1 arrest in Henderson for suspicion of child pornography and sexual assaultHENDERSON – The Henderson Police Department was notified of an inappropriate video that had been reported by a student at the Henderson Middle School. According to our news partner KETK, an HPD school detective and resource officer discovered that 18-year-old Dallas Alexander was identified as the suspect. Alexander was arrested on November 16th on warrants for possession with intent to promote child pornography and sexual assault. Alexander posted bond and was released from the Rusk County Jail. The investigation continues and the Henderson Police Department requests that anyone with information to please contact them.

1 dead, 3 injured in Henderson County two-vehicle crashHENDERSON COUNTY – One man was killed and three are in the hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Henderson County. According to our news partner KETK, Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were called to the crash site near Log Cabin in Henderson County. Officials say Leonardo Losoya of Grand Prairie was driving west in a truck tractor towing a trailer. DPS determined that Losoya veered of the road, went into the ditch then came back onto he westbound lane. When he hit by Joseph Jones of Bullard. He was also towing a trailer with his pickup. The 29-year-old Jones died at the crash site, while his two passengers and Losoya were taken to the hospital in Athens with non-life threatening injuries.

Texas Rangers investigating after inmate dies in Van Zandt County jailVAN ZANDT COUNTY – A inmate was found unresponsive in his cell and later died after law enforcement attempted life saving measures. That in a statement released by the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office. According to our news partner KETK, Officers found the inmate on Thursday morning Oct. 14th around 9:45 a.m. Emergency personnel arrived and exhausted all efforts to revive him. The inmate was identified as James King and was pronounced dead a short time later. Authorities say it appeared King took his own life. Sheriff Steve Hendrix, says his office immediately contacted the Texas Rangers who will conduct an investigation which is routine for deaths while in custody. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards was also notified.

TDEM will open COVID-19 antibody infusion center in TylerTYLER – On Sunday, Governor Greg Abbott announced that TDEM, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, will partner with local authorities and open a new COVID-19 therapeutic infusion center in Tyler. According to our news partner KETK, the infusion center will begin accepting patients on Tuesday. It will provide Regeneron’s monoclonal antibodies to treat outpatient cases of COVID-19 who have a doctor’s referral. The treatment will be available at no cost.
