PALESTINE — Our news partners at KETK report that two years after the case went cold, two Texas people have been arrested in connection with human trafficking of their own family members.

In October 2023, the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division was notified by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services of several complaints of sexual misconduct and possible prostitution in the Cleveland area of San Jacinto County.

The case went cold until September 2025, when the county reopened the investigation and identified two suspects, Glyn Banning and Jeremy Waltrapp, who are suspected of engaging in human trafficking. TYLER – The University of Texas at Tyler opened the new expansion to the Longview University Center and announced the launch of the first physician assistant program in East Texas.

With the support of Texas Rep. Jay Dean, funding for the building expansion and the PA program was provided by the 88th Texas Legislature. The Legislature provided $10 million for the 10,144 square-foot expansion that includes a large classroom, multipurpose lab space, nursing skills and health assessment labs and centralized study areas. This additional space enables UT Tyler to

TYLER – Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock today unveiled a new interactive data dashboard designed to put the latest economic and demographic information directly into the hands of Texans. The announcement came during a regional event hosted by the Tyler Chamber of Commerce, where Hancock kicked off the Good for Texas Tour: TexStats Dashboard Edition.

The new TexStats Regional Data Dashboard consolidates a wide range of state, county and regional data into a single, user-friendly site. Visitors can explore everything from population growth and job trends to health care access, education levels, industry strength and trade activity. TYLER – Lisa Renee Schuyler was arrested on Wednesday evening after a witness reported to the Tyler Police Department that he saw a woman leave two dogs in a hot vehicle for at least an hour. According to our news partner KETK, two white Labrador retrievers were spotted in a grey Ford on Skidmore Lane. Police documentation said neither had water. A nearby witness told police that he saw Schuyler leave the Ford an hour before the officers arrived. Animal control later arrived on the scene and checked the temperature inside the vehicle, which read 90.1 degrees. Schuyler was arrested on two counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals: failure to provide, and is currently being held at the Smith County Jail.

WINNSBORO, Texas – The Winnsboro High School teacher who was suspended after she was reported for striking a student in the back of the head has since resigned. Our news partner KETK reports that Aaron Nation, Interim Winnsboro ISD Superintendent, announced Friday morning that the teacher resigned after she was suspended last week. The district said they reported the alleged incident to law enforcement, the Department of Family and Protective Services, the State Board for Educator Certification and the Texas Education Agency.

WHITEHOUSE — A mother’s trust was shattered when she discovered her 4-year-old son, a high-functioning autistic child, had suffered second-degree burns while under the care of an after-school program. According to our news partner KETK, on Sept. 18, Marcella Boles, a mother from Whitehouse ISD, reported that she picked up her 4-year-old son from the Mentoring Alliance after-school program at Brown Elementary, finding burns on his arm.

She mentioned that her son, who is high-functioning autistic student, had been placed in a janitor’s closet by a staff member from Mentoring Alliance due to misbehavior. She has seen video evidence showing that Emma Souder took her son to the closet multiple times, locking him in there alone.

Whitehouse ISD has confirmed the incident occurred on school grounds and are cooperating with the investigation. Mentoring Alliance uses the district’s facility but does not work directly with them. Continue reading 4yr old suffers burns during after-school program

MARSHALL — The City of Marshall’s Local Rabies Control Authority (LRCA) confirmed on Thursday that a bat carrying rabies was found in the Marshall area earlier this week.

On Sept. 29, a Marshall Animal Control Officer collected a bat that was lying on the ground in the 200 block of North Washington Avenue according to our news partner KETK. The bat was later humanely euthanized and sent to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) for testing, according to Marshall PD. DSHS told the LRCA that the bat tested positive for rabies, and the LRCA has been monitoring the area where the bat was found to look for any other animals that may have been affected.

“We don’t believe anyone has been exposed, but we are taking this public health issue seriously. Public education is the key because rabies is fatal if left untreated, and it is 100% treatable,” Director of the LRCA and the Marshall Pet Adoption Center Justin Serna said.

TYLER — Texas comptroller introduces new statewide online tool designed to put the latest economic and demographic data directly into the hands of Texans. According to our news partner KETK, Texas comptroller Kelly Hancock launched the new online tool, ‘TEXSTATS Dashboard’, today during a visit to Tyler.

Hancock has been in this role since June, giving Texans easier access to information. The technology is all available right now on the Texas comptroller’s website.

“We provide this information online where they can access it and they can learn about education in the area,” Hancock said. “They can learn about population growth in the area. QUITMAN — The Quitman Independent School District is investigating allegations that an elementary student was confined to a classroom restroom as a form of punishment. Our news partner KETK is reporting that the school district was informed on Tuesday at 4 p.m. that two staff members had placed a student in the restroom and held the door closed to restrict their movement.

A teacher and a paraprofessional have been placed on administrative leave while the district conducts an investigation. This investigation concluded on Wednesday, leading them to be “no longer assigned to any district campus.” The district reported the situation to the Department of Family and Protective Services and the Texas Education Agency. Additionally, parents of all students in the classroom have been notified of the allegations and the district’s actions.

“We know this is concerning, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of your children are our top priority,” Mason said. “Thank you for your trust as we continue to provide a safe, caring and supportive learning environment for all students.”

TITUS COUNTY – According to our news partner KETK, six people were arrested in the first two days of October following a more than yearlong investigation by multiple agencies in Titus County.

Search warrants related to narcotics were conducted at houses in Mount Pleasant, Winfield and Naples on October 1. During the execution of the warrants, investigators found: 11 illegally possessed firearms, almost a pound of methamphetamine, almost a pound of cocaine and more than a pound of marijuana.

Mount Pleasant Police and the Department of Public Safety said that during the course of the investigation, several kilogram amounts of methamphetamine and several firearms were also seized. Continue reading Yearlong investigation leads to narcotics bust

HUNTSVILLE – The Dallas Morning News reports that death penalty supporters, along with conservative supporters and two Republican lawmakers held a news conference Wednesday afternoon at the state Capitol urging for Robert Roberson to have a new trial ahead of his scheduled execution in a little over two weeks. Roberson, 58, of Palestine, was convicted of capital murder in 2003 for reportedly shaking his 2-year-old daughter Nikki, to death.

His prosecution relied, in part, on proving Nikki showed a triad of symptoms associated with “shaken baby syndrome” — also known as “abusive head trauma.”

The theory has come under intense scrutiny by scientists and doctors who say it is not grounds to presume abuse. Roberson is scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection the evening of Oct. 16 in Huntsville. It is his third execution date in the more than two decades he has spent on death row. HENDERSON – Officials and our news partners at KETK have confirmed at least five cases of tuberculosis at the Bradshaw State Jail in Henderson. These cases occurring between June 23rd and September 24th. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) says they’re aware of these cases and is working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services to manage them. Officials with UT Health stepped in and took preventative measure to stop further spreading.

SMITH COUNTY –Dr. Jose Serpa has been appointed by the Smith County Commissioners Court, Tyler City Council, and by NET Health as the new Health Authority for Smith County.

TYLER — West Elm Street in Tyler will be closed through Friday in preparation for consent decree repairs, according to the city. The street will be closed going eastbound from South College Avenue to North Broadway Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drivers may need to find an alternative route during the closure.

LONGVIEW — Longview ISD Superintendent, Marla Sheppard announced the district’s five-year priorities plan aimed at improving educational experience for future Lobos the first State of the District Luncheon. Our news partner kETK is reporting that the district celebrated their achievements at the first State of the District Luncheon where Sheppard officially announced Elevate 2030. The project lays out five big priorities for the district.

“Our theme is embracing ACE and that’s achievement, customer service and excellence,” Sheppard said.

The first two priorities are empowerment through educational excellence and cultivating growth & excellence in staff.

SMITH COUNTY — The Smith County Commissioners Court approved reconstruction contracts for six county roads on Tuesday as part of a bond program according to our news partner KETK.

The following projects were awarded to the lower bidders for each as part of the Road and Bridge Bond Program. All the projects were awarded to either Texana Land & Asphalt Inc. or A.E. Shull & Company.

County Road 26

CR 26 will be widened with cement stabilization from the existing base material. The area will also be paved with new asphalt for a cost of $1.69 million.
UT Tyler professor appointed as new Smith County Health Authority

SMITH COUNTY – According to our news partner KETK, a contractor from Bullard was arrested on Tuesday for misappropriating approximately $400,000 of his neighbors’ money. He used these funds for personal expenses and to finance his trips to the casino after being hired to rebuild their home, which had been destroyed by a fire.

In January an investigator was contacted by a couple who said that their home had been struck by lightning in early 2024, causing a fire that destroyed a majority of the home. The home was determined to be a total loss by the insurance company, which, in return, settled with the homeowners. Officials said the homeowners then hired their neighbor, 51-year-old Brian Christopher Glass of Bullard, who operates the business, Glass Limitless Homes and Design, to rebuild their home.

“Between April 2024 and July 2024, Glass was paid over $500,000 by the homeowners for the construction,” the sheriff’s office said. “Around July 2024, the victims learned that the subcontractors had quit working due to not being paid by Glass. When the homeowners contacted Glass, he informed them that he needed more money above and beyond the agreed construction price in the signed contract. At this point, the homeowners began paying the subcontractors and businesses owed money for construction materials. At this point, the homeowners began paying the sub-contractors and businesses owed money for construction materials. This placed a significant strain on their financial situation.

SMITH COUNTY – Our news partners at KETK report that Smith County authorities are looking for Johnny Shane Wells. He’s accused of stealing more than $3,000 from an elderly person after he failed to complete an asphalt project for them. The victim reportedly paid Wells $1,700 for a project, and only a small portion of asphalt was poured. He then received an additional $1,400 from the victim to complete the job, but never returned. Authorities say Wells might be driving a red Ram pickup truck or a black newer-model Chevy pickup truck. The 34-year-old is described as Five feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 250 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Wells has a criminal history for several felony offenses out of multiple states.

OVERTON – A teen has been hospitalized and a woman has been arrested after a 13-year-old girl was hit by a vehicle twice on Overton ISD property on Saturday. Our news partner KETK and a press release from the Overton Police Department (OPD) reports that the victim was accidentally struck by a vehicle, which resulted in her becoming trapped under the car. TYLER – Tyler ISD Chief Communications Officer Jennifer Hines announced Wednesday morning that no students were injured after a crash involving a TISD bus occurred around 6:50 a.m. in the 500 block of West 32nd Street. No further details from the district or on-scene first responders were given.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas – Gaye Boynton announced her intention to run for district clerk. Boynton’s multiple leadership roles include her time as President of the Tyler Area Association of Legal Professionals, as well as over a decade in the Women’s Ministry at Green Acres Baptist Church. The role of district clerk is important in maintaining the official records of the district courts, which handle felony criminal and family law cases. Boynton will be on the ballot in the March 3, 2026 election as a Republican primary candidate.

LONGVIEW – The Longview Police Department said that officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Johnson Street Monday night after a shooting report was made. Our news partners at KETK report that officers found a male victim who was shot when they arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The shooter is still at large and anyone with information is being urged to contact the Longview Police Department.

TYLER — .S. Rep. Nathaniel Moran, R-Texas, voiced his opinion on Senate Democrats rejecting a continuing resolution (CR) that would fund the government until Nov. 21. According to our news partner KETK, Democrats defeated the proposal with a 44-48 vote after initially trying to pass their own government fund resolution earlier this month. Now, the government faces the possibility of going into a shutdown on Tuesday if both parties cannot come to an agreement by midnight EST on Tuesday.

“House Republicans are standing tall with our military, veterans, families and first responders,” Moran said. “House Republicans passed a clean CR to fund the government, but Senate Democrats are blocking it from becoming law, just like the House Democrats tried to do. Democrats would rather shut down the government in pursuit of unreasonable demands like their $1 TRILLION partisan wish list.”

WINNSBORO – A Winnsboro High School teacher has been suspended by the district she reportedly struck a student in the back of the head last week. Our news partners at KETK report that WISD said they reported the alleged incident to law enforcement, the Department of Family and Protective Services, the State Board for Educator Certification and the Texas Education Agency. Interim Superintendent Aaron Nation said an investigation is pending.

MARSHALL – James Patrick Bailey, 41, has been charged with possession of visual material depicting sexual assault and possession of a controlled substance by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). This comes after Bailey reportedly possessed “disturbing and inappropriate” videos and photos of children and uploading that material to a social media platform. The HCSO received the case assignment from the North Texas Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce on June 23. A search warrant was also conducted at Bailey’s home, which revealed 23 electronic devices, 3.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.

PANOLA COUNTY, Texas – Lawrence Williams was arrested by the Panola County Sheriff’s Office and charged with theft of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, with additional charges expected. Search warrants were conducted at multiple homes connected to Williams and an investigation into multiple thefts. It was determined that a weapon used in an aggravated robbery from Sept. 19 had not been pawned yet. Investigators said the gun was brandished by Williams during a theft of a radiator. Also found was a handgun, a magazine for another firearm, digital scales, multiple game cameras, assorted ammunition and an air compressor.

Marshall – On Friday, September 26, the Marshall Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT), working in conjunction with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, arrested a man
wanted on serious charges. Florencio Scott Sauceda, II, 23, was taken into custody in Diana, Texas, and transported to the Harrison County Jail.
