OVERTON – A teen has been hospitalized and a woman has been arrested after a 13-year-old girl was hit by a vehicle twice on Overton ISD property on Saturday. Our news partner KETK and a press release from the Overton Police Department (OPD) reports that the victim was accidentally struck by a vehicle, which resulted in her becoming trapped under the car. OPD published a press release that illustrated the situation.
“The adults at the scene did not call 911 right away and instead attempted to free the victim themselves,” the released said. After unsuccessful efforts, “[…] one adult female took control of the vehicle and, in an attempt to dislodge the child, intentionally drove over her a second time.” Overton PD described the act as a “tragic and reckless decision caused further injury to the victim,” that should have never happened. She was taken into custody on Tuesday and is currently being held in the Smith County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
