NACOGDOCHES — Five people have been arrested and over two pounds of marijuana have been seized in Nacogdoches after two search warrants were executed early Tuesday morning. KETK reports officers of the Nacogdoches Police Department executed the warrants simultaneously at two residences next door to each other on Humphrey Road. MARSHALL – Three Marshall men have been sentenced to federal prison by U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap of Marshall for drug trafficking violations. All three pleaded guilty May 3 and were sentenced Tuesday. Santiago Carbajal Abelardo, 26, and Jehovani Abelardo, 21, were each sentenced to 90 months behind bars for possession with intent to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine. HOUSTON — Two passengers have filed a joint lawsuit against the tour bus company that was allegedly responsible for a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 59. KETK reports that the law firm of Ramsey Hill filed a lawsuit Tuesday in Houston on behalf of Edgar Vela and Sergio Torres against American Coach Lines of Atlanta seeking monetary damages. The wreck happened last Thursday morning around 1:00 on Highway 59 near the Farm Road 1794 intersection, which is between Marshall and Carthage.

According to the Department of Public Safety, an El Expreso tour bus was headed north when the driver pulled a U-turn after learning a passenger had been left behind at a truck stop. During the U-turn, a tractor-trailer hauling sand collided with the bus. Authorities say the bus driver failed to check for oncoming traffic. Two people were killed and and several others were injured. The tour bus, which was heading from Houston to Chicago, is owned by the American Coach Lines of Atlanta, Inc., a Houston-based company.

GREENVILLE — Three Hunt County Child Protective Services workers are jailed after they were indicted on a number of charges. One of the cases has to do with murdered Greenville teenager Alicia Moore, whose body was found in Van Zandt County. Laura Ard, 60, of Rockwall, Natalie Reynolds, 33, of Fate, and Rebekah Ross, 33, were all picked up. Sheriff Randy Meeks says the grand jury indicted them for alleged evidence tampering, and one of the three faces three counts of official oppression, while another faces four official oppression counts. While the case is related to Alicia Moore’s death, sources are clear that none of the three are implicated in the murder itself; rather, they investigated Moore among other CPS clients. CPS says it is not aware of the investigation.

LONGVIEW — Three Pine Tree football players have been arrested for possessing marijuana several months ago. KETK reports all three players have been playing in every game for the Pirates this season. The three are identified as Robert Hines, Tyler Smith and Ladarius Fluellen. It stems from a June 11th incident when police were called to the high school. According to the Longview Police Department, a Pine Tree teacher called authorities to report the alleged drug use on school property in June. LAKE MURVAUL — A two year old boy has drowned in Lake Murvaul. He is Kemper Jullian Francis Dziesinski, who appears to have gotten out of his bed, opened the back door to his home on County Road 198, and ended up in the lake. He was found floating in about three feet of water around 11:00 Sunday morning. The youngster was first taken to ETMC-Carthage. After doctors found a slight pulse, he was airlifted to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. When doctors determined he was not responding to treatment, he was taken off life support Monday night. Authorities say they don’t suspect foul play, but Child Protective Services is conducting an administrative investigation.

WILLS POINT — The investigation is continuing into the death of a Wills Point man who was hit by a train. He is Guy Richard Herring, 56, who was struck around 8:00 Monday night as he crossed the tracks in the 500 block of East North Commerce Street. Two persons with him had already crossed the tracks when the accident occurred. Investigators say some crew members told them Herring waved his hand and screamed something just before he was hit. He was said to have been carrying an unopened six-pack of beer at the time of the accident. His body has been sent to a Dallas lab for autopsy and toxicology report.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Louie Gohmert is giving his two cents on Obamacare. The lawmaker from East Texas was on the Hannity show on Fox News. According to KETK, he shared his thoughts on why Democrats seem to have the upper hand, for now. Gohmert comments, “They were willing to take that chance even if it risked the majority, because they knew once they had the government in control of everybody’s most personal records. It was such a huge win for them. We have not had as many people willing to stand up for what’s best for America.” Gohmert told Hannity he thinks too many establishment Republicans in the Senate are afraid of a government shut down because it might cost them leadership positions.

LONGVIEW — Two Longview men have been jailed after police said they found an assortment of illegal drugs during a traffic stop. According to the Longview News-Journal, three Longview police officers were watching a house in the 900 block of Wilson Street where they believed narcotics were being sold, according to police reports. The officers said they watched as Andres Frank McEntire, 38, (pictured) and Michael Edward Sampson, 41, left the house in a red Chevy Camaro. The officers later stopped the driver for a busted reverse light, police said. Police said they learned Sampson had outstanding warrants for driving while intoxicated, expired driver’s license and failure to maintain financial responsibility. TYLER — Three big names have been added to the 2013 – 14 season at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Susan Thomae-Morphew, executive director, announced. Broadcast journalist and talk show host Katie Couric, comedian Jerry Seinfeld and author Robert Edsel have been included in the “A Million Moments” season, which already featured a wealth of performances. EAST TEXAS — Friday’s rains have prompted more East Texas counties to lift their bans on outdoor burning. Smith and Henderson Counties cancelled their burn bans Tuesday. KETK reports that Gregg, Wood, and Cherokee Counties lifted their prohibitions Monday. Harrison, Rusk, Anderson, Camp, and Upshur Counties had lifted their bans during the weekend. All county officials are cautioning East Texans to be careful with the wind when burning and to also know that all burn bans could go back into effect if the rain does not continue. The Henderson County fire marshal cautions, “Trees, shrubs and grass are still very dry from the prolonged drought and a small spark will set them on fire easily. Do not leave any fires unattended.”

EMORY — According to the Rains County Sheriff’s Office, an inmate in the Rains County Jail has escaped. According to KETK, Crystal Marie Robinson, 31, is a Hispanic female wearing an orange jumpsuit, standing 5’3″ and weighing in at 130 pounds. Officials say Robinson escaped from the Rains County Courthouse Tuesday morning. Authorities report they are unaware of which direction she may be headed and she may be on foot or in a green car that was in the area at the time of her escape. TYLER — It’s now a two-man race for the District 4 seat on Tyler’s City Council in the May 2014 election. Small business owner and community volunteer Eleno Licea (at right in picture) announced his candidacy Tuesday. Licea has volunteered with Bethesda Health Clinic, the Hispanic Business Alliance, the Boy Scouts, and other groups. Along with his nonprofit work, he’s served on the city’s planning and zoning commission and recently completed a term on the Tyler ISD board. Regarding his school board duties, Licea says, “My service as trustee allowed me to see things from the perspective of our students, parents, teachers and administrators and gave me good insight into our local government agencies.” So far, Licea faces oil and gas professional Don Warren in the May election. Current District 4 Council member Martin Heines is running for mayor.

LONGVIEW — A Longview man is behind bars, accused of stabbing his stepfather and brother. Police tell KETK Lewis Rodriguez, 20, stabbed his step-dad during a fight. It happened Friday night along the 200 block of Bawner. Police say Rodriguez’s brother tried breaking up the fight and was stabbed for his efforts. Both of them were treated at a local hospital.

HARRISON COUNTY — A home in Harrison County has been destroyed by fire. It was reported around 12:30 Monday afternoon on U.S. Highway 80 just east of the Longview city limits. No one was home when the fire started and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

KILGORE — According to the Kilgore Police Department, Aaron Wayne Fouse, 35, Kilgore, has been reported as missing. KETK reports Fouse was last heard from on September 7. He is 6’2” and weighs about 340 pounds. He drives a maroon 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Texas License Plates CY2-Y298. SMITH COUNTY — Authorities Monday issued updated information on a fatal Smith County wreck. KETK reports one person was killed and two were injured. Friday, at 6:22 p.m., DPS Troopers were notified of a multiple vehicle crash on IH-20 in Smith County, West of US 271. An SUV, driven by Jennifer Nelson of Longview, was westbound on I-20. Traffic was stopped due to a previously occurring crash. Authorities say Nelson struck the back end of a car driven by Vincent Joseph Chao, 39, of Monroe, Louisiana, who was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Chao’s passenger, Yong S. Chao, 71, also of Monroe, was killed. Another passenger in the vehicle, Shiu-Fang Chao, 65, was injured and was also taken to a local hospital. TYLER — The Tyler Police Department has announced a temporary road closure. KETK reports the 500 Block of Baxter Street will be closed until late afternoon or early evening for repairs. Officials urge drivers to find a detour while this area is being worked on.

HARRISON COUNTY — A theft suspect was taken to a local hospital Sunday after receiving electrical burns at a Harrison County well site. KETK reports that according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Kenneth Bolyer, 47, was treated for electrical burns on his hand, chest, and neck after he apparently touched very high voltage wiring. Upon discussing the incident with Bolyer, the medical staff told a Harrison County deputy Bolyer had been at a well site near Waskom and did not have permission to be removing electrical equipment and wiring. CHAPEL HILL – The death of a one year old Smith County child remains under investigation. It happened on County Road 290 in the Chapel Hill community. According to authorities, around 6:45 Saturday evening, EMS and a Smith County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a 911 call reporting that a child had been injured after a family member allegedly backed over the youngster with a vehicle in the driveway. The child was transported to a Dallas hospital and later died there.

RUSK — Cherokee County authorities are asking for any information about a burglary that happened in early September. Sometime during the week of September 2nd, a burglar reportedly broke into a house on Farm Road 1248, just south of Rusk, and stole several guns and tools. The homeowner was in the process of moving and had last been at his house on September 2nd. He returned to the house on September 8th to retrieve the last of his personal items. However, upon his arrival, he discovered that many items had been stolen. There did not appear to be any forced entry into the house. It’s believed that the burglars entered through an unlocked window. Numerous guns, an air compressor and multiple tools were reported stolen. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at more than $2,000. Call Cherokee County Crimestoppers at 903-586-7878 with any information.

CHAPEL HILL — Two garbage trucks have been destroyed in a Smith County fire. It was reported around 3:45 Sunday afternoon at the Garbage Pick-up Service parking lot, off of Farm Road 848. KETK reports the fire started in the front end of one truck and spread to a second one. There were no injuries. No word on how the fire started.

TYLER — It’s time for Tyler’s bi-annual Free Bulky Item Cleanup Week. For areas whose trash is picked up on Monday and Thursday, your bulky items will be picked up from today through Friday. For areas whose trash is picked up on Tuesday and Fridays, your bulky items will be picked up from September 30th through October 4th. During these weeks, residential customers may get rid of bulky items such as unwanted furniture, appliances, carpet, fence material, up to four noncommercial vehicle tires, old toys and other large items that would normally require a special fee for free. QUITMAN – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews were back in Quitman Monday and are scheduled to return Tuesday to make remedial repairs to East Goode Street between the courthouse and the SH 154/SH 37 split. Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible to avoid delays.

CHEROKEE COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to begin approximately two weeks of resurfacing operations on State Highway 204 between Jacksonville and Ponta. TYLER — For the people who pumped gas at A&W Grocery on Bow Street in Tyler Saturday morning, what should have been a quick stop, turned into a nightmare. According to KETK, Friday night, a valve leading to the gas tanks was left open making it easy for the rain we saw Friday to make it’s way into the gas supply. And while the new mixture consisted of about only five percent gas, no one knew. It wasn’t until someone took their car to the mechanic that they found out the gas really wasn’t gas. So from 5:00 to 8:30, which is when the manager was notified of what was happening, whoever stopped to get gas, filled their tank with water. And the fix is not easy or quick. The tank needs to be removed, emptied, cleaned, and refilled. A&W Grocery is footing all bills associated with the damage.

NEW BOSTON (AP) — A northeast Texas jury has sentenced a Texarkana, Texas, man to life imprisonment for murder in the fatal beating of a 2-year-old neighbor boy. The Bowie County jury gave Jimmy Paul Mahone, 33, the maximum sentence on Friday, one day after finding him guilty of murder in the death of Dalton Wayne Slaton. A medical examiner determined the boy had a skull fracture and numerous other broken bones. Prosecutors told jurors that Mahone apparently had picked the boy up by his leg and swung him repeatedly into the hard back of a sofa in his apartment. According to the Texarkana Gazette, witnesses testified that Mahone appeared to be obsessed with the child.

NACOGDOCHES — The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office has received warrants for the arrest of three Nacogdoches men for an aggravated robbery in 2009. According to KETK, the robbery occurred in June of 2009 as three men robbed an armored car at Regions Bank in the 300 block of East Main Street. The investigation had been ongoing since that time. The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office has had a series of drug investigations in Nacogdoches County. While conducting these investigations, investigators had received information of drugs being distributed in the 3000 block of North Pecan Street. TYLER — Tyler Police search for an armed robbery suspect. It happened just after 10:45 Friday night at the Speedy Trak gas station, 1811 South Broadway. The clerk said she noticed the suspect in the parking lot moments before the robbery and saw that his face was covered with a light blue bandana. The clerk immediately turned and headed toward the back of the store. The suspect entered through the front door and walked around the counter. He then displayed what appeared to be a handgun covered with a black rag and demanded money from the cashier. An undisclosed amount of money was taken. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. The clerk was not harmed during the robbery. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’9”, 150-175lbs, wearing a black hoodie and black sweat pants. Anyone with information is asked to contact Tyler Police.

LONGVIEW — Longview police say they’ve solved several graffiti cases thanks to a tip from a local resident. Police say they’ve been investigating numerous complaints about graffiti on local buildings, including the downtown area. Officers encourage you to be aware of suspicious activity, and report it immediately if you see it. Such activity might include skateboarders in areas posted with “No Trespassing” signs, people on top of the roofs of buildings, and cars parked at closed businesses or people walking around those businesses
