SMITH COUNTY – A woman has been arrested in Smith County following a multi-county car chase. It started with Mineola police chasing a car with New York State license plates. They halted the chase when they lost sight of the vehicle. It resumed when a caller reported a reckless driver heading east on Interstate 20 from Highway 110. A state trooper picked up the chase around Jim Hogg Road. Stop sticks deflated three of the cars tires around Highway 155. The car finally stopped in Gregg County. Diane Marie Bartoszak, 31, Of New Windsor, New York, is charged with evading arrest with a vehicle. Her bond was set at $50,000.

TYLER – A Tyler teen is sentenced for impersonating an officer. Khristian Thomas Welch, 19, of Tyler, was given three years deferred adjudication. The sentence was part of a plea agreement. On February 23 of last year, police say Welch pulled over a driver on highway 64 West at Loop 323. The victim said the man had a handgun. They were able to get the license plate number and police found the vehicle a short time later at South Broadway and the Loop. Welch admitted to trying to pull the victim’s vehicle over after observing it run a red light. A red and blue strobe light was found on the front seat of his vehicle.

CANTON – The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on a missing teenager. She is Emily Marie Rosamond, 15, of Grand Saline. She was last seen on March 3 between the hours of 10:00pm and 1:00am at her residence on Van Zandt County Road 1216. She is described as approximately 5’ 05” tall, approximately 120 pounds, brown eyes and brown hair. She was last seen wearing dark colored pants with white designs, turquoise shirt, and Adidas tennis shoes. Emily is pictured wearing glasses but she no longer wears them. Emily has a scar on her right arm near her elbow. According to the department’s Facebook posting, when Emily left her home she did not take any extra clothing, food, personal items or her medication. MARSHALL – A Marshall man has been indicted in connection with an accident in which a pedestrian was seriously injured. Indicted by the Harrison County grand jury was Aaron Hollie Callaway, 49. He is charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury. The accident occurred last October 25 at the intersection of West Pinecrest Drive and Washington Avenue. The pedestrian, who had serious injuries, and Callaway, who was also injured, were taken to the hospital. Callaway is also facing a separate charge which is not connected to the DWI accident. On November 21st, Callaway was stopped shortly before 8:00 that night for driving without having his headlights on. When he failed the field sobriety tests, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

TYLER – Smith County authorities have arrested a Lindale man for sexually assaulting children. Arrested Tuesday was Joseph Henry Bolden, 31. Sheriff’s department detectives say that Bolden had sexually assaulted two children on multiple occasions. Detectives say one child was four years old and the other was five years old. Bolden was arrested by the Smith County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force. He was booked into the Smith County Jail on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact. His bonds total $500,000.

TYLER – Tyler recorded a record low temperature Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service reports Tuesday’s low was 22 degrees. The previous record low for March 5th was 23 degrees, which was recorded in 1989. For the coldest temperature ever recorded during the month March, you have to go back to 1943 when it was 13 degrees in Tyler.

TYLER – Tyler Junior College has received two awards at the Texas Junior College Student Government Association Region 3 Conference. The school received the Student Center Chapter of the Year Award. Also, TJC sophomore elementary education major Hannah Lair was named Student of the Year. A native of Carlinville, Illinois, Lair serves as Student Senate executive secretary and co-chair of the health and safety committee. She also serves as secretary at the state level for Texas Junior College Student Government Association. This is the second year in a row that TJC has won Student of the Year, as former Student Senate President Patrick Smallwood earned the title in 2018. Lair and the TJC chapter will now advance to the state level in April, when they will compete against all of the community colleges in Texas.

WASHINGTON – Tyler Congressman Louie Gohmert has been honored by The United Negro College Fund for his work in congress to support Historically Black Colleges and Universities and their students. Each member of Congress is scored based on their voting record and participation in activities that support HBCU’s core principles. The organization said that “Rep. Gohmert has been an advocate for HBCUs throughout his time in Congress, consistently voting on legislation that would not just support these institutions but would allow them to thrive. He has worked extensively with Wiley College, Texas College, and Jarvis Christian College, all of which are HBCU institutions within his district.”

TYLER – The city of Tyler is encouraging businesses and residents to turn off automatic sprinklers when the temperature is freezing. Sprinkler systems left on when temperatures drop below freezing may cause sheets of ice to form in streets and on sidewalks. This can create hazardous driving conditions, as well as hazardous walking conditions on both sidewalks and at crosswalks. We will have one more freezing night before a warmup begins.

TYLER – Work is underway to improve Tyler’s Transportation Improvement Program. The purpose of the program is to list the transportation improvements that are scheduled to be implemented within the next four years. The proposed amendments include adding funding to acquire property and move utilities to facilitate two upcoming street widening projects: the Old Jacksonville Highway from Flint to Bullard and Paluxy Drive from Jeff Davis Drive to Farm Road 346. An open house will be held at 5:30 Wednesday afternoon to get public input on the projects. it will be held in the large conference room of the Tyler Development Center on West Ferguson.

ALTO – An arrest has been made in the attack on an elderly Alto couple last month. Charged Monday in the case was Joshua OBryan Gasaway, 32, of Alto. He is said to be the man who attacked the couple after they heard an alarm on their property on Farm Road 1911. He first attacked the woman, hitting her in the head. He then attacked her husband when he came out to help his wife. Gasaway is facing two charges of injury to the elderly. His bonds total $500,000. Cherokee County Jail records show Gasaway has been booked in jail on numerous occasions for various offenses beginning in 2005.

TYLER – A part time assistant boys basketball coach at Tyler’s T. K. Gorman High School has been arrested. Ja’Keal Latrenton Lockett, 24, was arrested Monday by the University of Texas at Tyler police. He has been charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a sex offense. He is in the Smith County Jail under a $250,000 bond. According to a statement released by the school, he has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the case. School officials say there is no indication that his actions occurred on campus or with students.

KILGORE (AP) – Four murals from the 1940s created in a Public Works Administration cultural effort have been returned to an East Texas post office-turned-art center. The Longview News-Journal reports workers spent Monday rehanging the Xavier Gonzalez murals inside the structure in Kilgore. Volunteers supporting the Old Post Office History & Art Center relied on photos to pinpoint original locations for the murals at the Kilgore post office, which opened in the late 1930s. Gonzalez created the murals in 1941. The collection includes “Pioneer Saga,” “Drilling for Oil,” “Contemporary Youth” and “Music of the Plains.” The artwork, since that post office closed, was on loan the past 20 years to the East Texas Oil Museum at Kilgore College.

HENDERSON COUNTY — An Athens man has been arrested following a traffic stop Monday night. According to the Henderson County Sheriff, William Allen Henderson, 57, was pulled over for a traffic violation just outside of Athens around 9:00. During a search of his vehicle, investigators found a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine and a glass pipe, along with a loaded .38 special handgun. Henderson is a convicted felon and prohibited from carrying a firearm. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a felon.

TYLER — One man has been killed, one injured following a wreck in Tyler Monday night. It happened around 10:45 at Loop 323 and Paluxy. Officials said a silver Jeep was driving westbound on the Loop at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light. The Jeep struck the driver’s side of a red GMC Yukon traveling southbound on Paluxy. The driver of the Yukon was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Dan Rodela Gonzalez (pictured), 25, of Tyler. The driver of the Jeep, Ethan John Craft, 24, of Tyler, was transported to UT Health. No arrests have been made but the circumstances of the wreck are under investigation, including whether alcohol or other substances may have played a role.

TYLER – Tyler recorded a record low maximum temperature on Monday. The National Weather Service reports Tyler’s high for Monday was 35 degrees. The previous record low maximum temperature was 36 set in 2014. And we may end up with a record low temperature reading for March 5th in Tyler on Tuesday.

GLADEWATER – A two vehicle accident in Upshur County has left one person dead. Killed was Lee James Odum, 18, of Big Sandy. His car was legally parked and he was standing at his mailbox when his vehicle was hit by a pickup driven by Cody Lindley, 34, of Mineola. Odum was transported to Christus Mother Francis Hospital-Tyler where he died on Sunday. The accident happened on US-80, one mile west of Gladewater. The Department of Public Safety says the crash remains under investigation.

TYLER – A Smith County fire department is reporting the theft of jackets and pants. The bunker gear was stolen from the Chapel Hill Fire Department. Around ten pair of pants and jackets were stolen. This gear is essential in keeping the men and women of the Chapel Hill Fire Department safe and is an integral part of their life saving equipment. Most of the jackets have a “Chapel Hill” or similar marking on them. The photograph is an example of the stolen bunker gear. The actual items may look slightly different. This burglary possibly occurred between February 18 and February 22. The Smith County Sheriff’s department is asking for your help in recovering the items or arresting the suspects. MARSHALL – Two persons have been arrested and one is being sought in connection with a Marshall robbery. It happened on Benita Drive just before 8:00pm on February 24th when a man was robbed by three persons. They took an undisclosed amount of money from the victim and fled in a pickup. The victim chased the suspects in his vehicle, with the suspects firing shots at him. He was not injured. On Monday, it was announced that detectives had arrested in the case Sabastian Anthony and Richard Christopher, Jr, both 17 and both from Marshall. A warrant has also been issued for Erik Galindo, 18, (pictured) also from Marshall.

TOOL – A body found in Cedar Creek Lake has been identified as that of Michael Wayne Dickson, 30, of Tool. The body was found on shortly after 4:15 Friday afternoon in the water off Sampan Drive near Tool. The body was sent to a Dallas lab for autopsy. The preliminary report said there were no signs of trauma and the findings are consistent with drowning.

TATUM – A Rusk county teenager, who was not wearing his seat belt, was killed in a weekend accident. Killed was a Tatum High School senior, Hector Eduardo Duran, 18. The Department of Public Safety report says his pickup was traveling north on County Road 2142 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle ran off the road and hit several trees. Duran, who was tossed from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident, which remains under investigation, happened shortly after 10:30 Saturday night five miles west of Tatum.

TYLER – A Tyler man has been arrested on sexual abuse charges out of the Beaumont area. Smith County records show Dusty Wayne Authement, 33, was booked into jail at 6:00pm on Friday. He was picked up by the U.S. Marshal’s Service on warrants out of Jefferson County. The jail records show he is being held on charges of continuous sexual abuse of child under the age of 14 and sexual assault of a child. His bonds total $150,000.

LINDALE – An east bound lane closure can be expected on Interstate Highway 20. The closure will be at the Toll 49 Bridge from 9:00am till 4:00pm Tuesday and from 9:00am till 1:00pm on Wednesday. While the inner lane is closed, traffic is being rerouted on the outer eastbound lane. The action is needed while work is performed on the bridge due to a realignment issue caused by a July accident.

LONGVIEW – Following a Sunday closure, Longview’s Industrial Drive will be closed to through traffic again Tuesday between Marshall Avenue, U.S. Highway 80, and Cotton Street to allow for railroad track maintenance. The railroad crossing on Industrial Drive will be closed to all traffic. Drivers are encouraged to use Eastman Road as an alternate route.

TYLER – As part of the construction of Fire Station No. 1, the utility contractor must close Palace Avenue between West Gentry Parkway and West Queen Street to install a waterline. There will be no through traffic. The schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions or other unforeseen issues. As it stands now, the area will be closed from Monday through Friday, March 22.

TYLER – TxDOT is planning to conduct the following construction and maintenance work throughout the district during the week of March 4. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure or other unforeseen issues. Tyler Maintenance crews plan to continue base repair work on State Highway 110 just north of Farm Road 3271. Base repairs will also be conducted on Loop 323 near Tyler Iron and Metal followed by ditch maintenance on State Highway 31East just east of Farm Road 757. TYLER – Now that Nix is resigning from the south Tyler city council position, Criss Sudduth announced that he will file his candidacy for the post. Sudduth, a lifelong resident of Tyler, has owned Ark Assurance Group, an independent insurance agency, for the last 28 years. In announcing his intention to run for the city council position, Sudduth said “I want to continue the conservative pay as you go plan that was implemented years ago and has allowed our city to make improvements by paying cash, eliminating our bond debt and keeping city property taxes low.” In a written statement, Sudduth said, “We must remember that city government’s number one priority should be public safety of our citizens. I am passionate about supporting our police and fire departments. We must also work to improve our infrastructure in the city, focusing on traffic, drainage and street improvements.”

TOOL – Henderson County authorities are investigating a body found in Cedar Creek Lake. The body was found in the water off of Sampan Drive in the Tool area. The man’s body will be sent to American Forensics in Dallas for an autopsy.

TYLER – A Tyler city councilman is resigning to run for mayor next year. South District City Councilman John Nix has announced his resignation. He intends to run for mayor next year. He wants to succeed Martin Heines who, because of term limits, will have to step down next year. Nix says major improvements have been made throughout the city. But he says the city still has major needs that must be addressed in improving the infrastructure, such as roads, drainage, traffic and parks. Nix says, In order to be eligible, and to comply with the City of Tyler charter, he is required to submit his letter of resignation to Mayor Heines.
