TYLER – City of Tyler Street crews will be making multiple street repairs on South Broadway Avenue from Elm Street to Front Street. Drivers should expect multiple lane closures and proceed with caution. Work is expected to continue until 4 p.m. today and any remaining work will be completed Tuesday starting at 7 a.m.

NACOGDOCHES — The Lumberjack Marching Band at Stephen F. Austin heads overseas today. It’ll perform at the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin, Ireland next Saturday. David Campo is the associate director of bands at SFA. He calls the invitation “a great honor” and “an incredible challenge.” He says this all started five years ago, when the band was invited to march in the New Year’s Day parade in London and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. At this parade, Campo says the band will play the SFA fight song, his own arrangement of “The Yellow Rose of Texas,” and an arrangement of “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” — adding, “We’re sort of covering all our bases.”

NEW LONDON – An east Texas volunteer fireman has died from injuries received in an accident last month. KETK is reporting M.V. Hudson passed away Saturday morning. Hudson and two other firemen were heading to a grass fire on February 28th when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled, trapping the men inside. The other firemen, Mark Norwood and Larry Bathke, received minor injuries.

TYLER – Here’s a look at work planned in the district during the week of March 12th. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure or other unforeseen issues. Slow down and pay attention when traveling through work zones.

In Anderson County, Palestine Maintenance will conduct base repair operations on Farm Road 2267 between State Highway 155 and Farm Road 321. Edge repair work will be performed on U.S. Highway 287 from Farm Road 321 to Farm Road 2706. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control at both locations. EAST TEXAS – Severe thunderstorms rumbled through east Texas Saturday night and Sunday morning, resulting in death and golf ball size hail. One of the storm deaths was in Longview. It happened at the Flamingo Mobile Home Park on West Fairlane Drive when a tree fell on a mobile home around 4:30 Sunday morning. Relative tells KETK the victim was Angel Rocha, 41, of Henderson. He had been living in the mobile home the past four or five months. His 12 year old son was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released. LONGVIEW – Two persons have died in a Longview fire. It was reported shortly after 11:00 Friday night on Cherie Lane. Family members have told KETK the victims are Randall Russell and his daughter, Lisa Russell Tesmer, 52. No word on the cause of the fire. According to the police department’s Facebook page, the residents in the adjacent duplex were not injured.

BROWNSBORO – A Brownsboro volunteer fireman has died in a one vehicle accident in Henderson County. It happened just before 8:45 Friday evening ten miles south of Brownsboro on County Road 3600. Dead at the scene was Joseph Gentry, 28, who was a passenger in a car driven by Christopher Garrison, 21. Gentry, who was not wearing a seat belt, was tossed from the vehicle. Garrison was not seriously injured. The Department of Public Safety report says the driver lost control of the vehicle in a sharp curve and the front end hit a ditch.

LONGVIEW – A Longview man arrested for criminal trespass is also facing drug charges. Jack Monroe Hollins, 57, was arrested shortly before 11:30 Thursday night on East Marshall Avenue. In one pocket, officers found a bag of pill bottles and pieces of foil which they say contained several small baggies of powder cocaine. In the other pocket was a pill bottle with more baggies of cocaine. More baggies were found in his wallet. Hollins is also charged with charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. His bonds total $51,000.

EAST TEXAS – Two persons have been arrested after authorities served search warrants at two East Texas game rooms. One was in Diana and the other was in Gladewater. Over 100 computers were seized from the two rooms. A large amount of money and suspected methamphetamine were seized when a third warrant was served at a Gladewater residence. Charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence were Hussain Imtiaz, 51 and Fahad Imtiaz, 25, both of Gladewater. Investigators say additional charges may be filed in the investigation. CANTON – A traffic stop in Van Zandt County has led to the seizure of a quantity of drugs. The west bound vehicle was stopped by a sheriff’s deputy and a state trooper. Officers found two pounds of heroin. That led them to a home near the traffic stop. There, they found $18,700 and around 33 pounds of heroin valued up to $3 million. The suspects will not be identified pending further investigation.

LONGVIEW – There will be no jury duty in Gregg County on Monday. District Clerk Barbara Duncan’s office said that anyone with a summons for the jury panel does not need to respond. The jury duty was cancelled because all trials set to begin Monday have either settled or been continued to another day. The names of those who had been called for Monday will be reshuffled into the random selection process.

TYLER – A Van Zandt County man is charged with leaving three children alone while he picked up his wife at work. Refugio Flores Lara, 38, of Ben Wheeler is charged with abandoning or endangering a child with intent to return. Tyler police were called when three small children were reported to be walking around a motel on East Gentry Parkway Thursday night. Officers were at the motel when the couple returned. Lara was booked into the Smith County Jail with a bond of $10,000.

TYLER – On Saturday, from 7:00am to 4:00pm, traffic on Rice Road will be diverted between Kinsey Drive and Old Bullard Road. This is because of roadwork and construction. Rice Road will be closed to local traffic between Cloverdale Drive and Briar Cove Drive and closed to truck traffic from Kinsey Drive to Old Bullard Road. It is estimated it will take around 9 hours to complete the work.

LAKE FORK – The second Legacy Class largemouth bass of the 2018 ShareLunker season came out of Lake Fork on Thursday. Angler Michael Terrebonne of Cut Off, Louisiana caught the 13.00lb, 25-inch largemouth bass in 6ft of water during an annual family trip to the lake. The fish, now known as Toyota ShareLunker 572, was weighed and held at a local marina until Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Inland Fisheries staff arrived to verify the catch and transport it to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center at Athens. The fish is now in the “Lunker Bunker” at the center and is being monitored and cared for by hatchery staff to prepare for spawning.

TRINIDAD – Two Henderson County residents are facing drug charges following a Thursday afternoon traffic stop. Gerald Don Williams, Jr., 50, and Amy Lynn Smith, 37, both of Trinidad, were charged with possession of a controlled substance. Williams was also charged with possession of marijuana. In their vehicle, deputies found three pipes, a baggie containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine and another baggie containing marijuana. TYLER – A Smith County insurance agent is free on bond after being charged with several counts of child sexual abuse. William Ronald Crist, 46, of Flint, was booked into the Smith County Jail Thursday afternoon after being arrested by the Bullard Police Department. He is charged with one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14 and two counts of sexual assault of a child. He was released Friday under bonds totaling $30,000. His lawyer sent a statement to KETK, which says in part, “My client adamantly denies the charges against him. He is currently going through a bitter divorce from his wife and we believe these allegations are being made by his wife for financial reasons and by his accuser for personal reasons. Mr. Crist passed a polygraph exam regarding these allegations.”

AUSTIN – Tyler’s unemployment rate continues to run below both the state and national numbers. The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.0% in January. That is just below the national unemployment rate of 4.1%. The annual employment growth for Texas was 2% in January, marking 93 consecutive months of annual growth. Tyler’s unemployment rate for January was 3.8%, just up from the 3.7% figure in December. Longview’s unemployment rate to start the year was 4.6%, up from 4% in December. But it is still way below the city’s 6.6% unemployment rate in January of last year.

UPSHUR COUNTY — A Gilmer woman has been accused of leaving two toddlers home alone. According to KETK, deputies arrested Shaina Workman, 24, of Gilmer. She is charged with two counts of abandoning or endangering a child. Upshur County deputies said they were at her home Wednesday afternoon for 45 minutes before she returned. Workman admitted to going to Longview with another person, leaving a one year old and two year old by themselves. The children were unharmed and have been turned over to Child Protective Services. Workman’s bonds total $60,000.

LONGVIEW – A Spring Hill school district coach has been arrested for an alleged improper relationship with a student. Arrested shortly after 4:30 Thursday afternoon was Jacob Vincent Badgett, 25, of Longview. Badgett is a assistant boys 7th grade basketball coach and an assistant junior high football coach. According to the Longview Police Department, this is an ongoing investigation. He was placed in the Gregg County Jail under a $50,000 bond.

TYLER — The entrance to the old Tyler airport terminal has been reopened after being closed for a time this afternoon due to an accident at Highway 64 West and Airport Drive. Traffic was down to one lane eastbound on Highway 64 West until emergency services gave the all clear.

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville police are looking for a wanted felon. He is Drayshadrian Hunter, 26, who is also known as “Stinky Butt.” He is wanted on warrants out of the Jacksonville Police Department as well as Smith, Van Zandt and Kaufman counties. Officers were tipped off that he was seen in the area of Lincoln Park Wednesday afternoon. When he saw the officers, he ran into a wooded area between Greely and Grant Streets. Even a police canine team and a DPS helicopter were unable to find Hunter. If you know where he can be found, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 903-586-7867.

JACKSONVILLE – A Cherokee County teens remains in jail after leading officers on a vehicle and foot chase. Carlos Dominguez, 17, of Rusk, who was named in a variety of warrants, was spotted by an officer. The chase started in Jacksonville, and ended there when his vehicle hit a building on Beaumont Street near Highway 79. He then ran away, only to be found later hiding in a storm drain under Wesley Street. After being treated for minor injuries at the hospital, Dominguez was jailed on numerous charges, including one out of Smith County for possession of marijuana. His bonds totaling $70,000.

TYLER – Tyler police are trying to identify a man posing as a delivery driver. Last December, a man entered a store wearing a uniform that resembled UPS. He asked the employees if they had any outgoing packages of jewelry for him to pick-up. The employee then handed him a pick-up delivery that contained $63,000 worth of jewelry. The man, believed to be driving a Silver Hyundai Elantra, was of medium build and believed to be in his late 40s to 50s. If you can identify him, you are asked to call Tyler police.

TYLER – A Tyler man convicted of aggravated assault on a public servant, had his appeal rejected. The 12th court of appeals in Tyler has upheld the conviction of Gregory Dewayne Tennyson, 43. He was arrested in October, 2015, after leading lawmen on a chase in Smith and Wood counties at speeds topping 100 miles an hour. A Tyler police officer attempted to stop his car on the northwest loop, but he didn’t stop until a state trooper shot out one of his tires. Tennyson rammed four law enforcement vehicles before he was arrested in Mineola. Eight months later a Smith County jury sentenced him to life in prison

TYLER – The Wings of Freedom Tour comes to Tyler Friday afternoon. Some extremely rare aircraft will be flying in around 2:00 o’clock. Included is a B-17, (pictured) one of only 9 in flying condition in the United States. There will also be a B-24J Liberator, the sole remaining example of its type flying in the world. Also coming is a B-25, best known for being used in the daring Doolittle raid. And also on the tour is a P-51 Mustang fighter and a Huey helicopter. The tour will be at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport through Sunday afternoon. You will be able to tour the aircraft and some of you will even be able to fly in them.

TYLER – The Tyler Police Department Crimestoppers coordinator, Jennifer Roberts, has been awarded the Joe Martino Administrator of the Year Award. She received the honor at the 23rd Annual Texas Crime Stoppers campus conference in Houston. Roberts has worked with Tyler-Smith County Crimestoppers for over 25 years. A student at Whitehouse High School, Jarret Carnes, was selected at the conference to represent Tyler/Smith County as a Teen Ambassador for Texas Crime Stoppers.

TROUP – The lone finalist for the Troup school superintendent’s post has been announced. Palestine’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Tammy Jones, has been named to the position. She was selected from among 74 persons who applied for the job. Jones will start to work in Troup at the end of next month. She will succeed Stuart Bird, who has announced his retirement. Bird has been with the Troup school system for 46 years.

TYLER – Two more Tyler traffic signal boxes have been wrapped with artwork by local artists. At the corner of Troup Highway and Lindbergh Drive, there is an abstract tree drawing by artist Julia Bradshaw that wraps the traffic box. At Old Jacksonville Highway and Grande Boulevard, a photograph of roses taken by David Di Paolo has been sponsored by Latta Dentistry. The Keep Tyler Beautiful Beauty and the Box program began in 2016.

TYLER – The Tyler Police Department is alerting businesses to a scam which they say they have not seen before. The caller tells the store employee he is in upper management or loss prevention. They convince an employee to handle a clam, like someone falling in the store. They instruct the employee to send them the stores money by gift card or Western Union. They even keep the employee on the phone and walk them through the process. Tyler police encourage employees to ask for a name and number and tell them that you will return the call once you have looked into the claim. Then , contact your management to verify the information.
