HARRISON COUNTY — A Hallsville mother and her 3-month-old child were killed Sunday in a wreck in Harrison County. A Jefferson man also suffered life-threatening injuries in the wreck. According to the Longview News-Journal and the DPS report, Jessica Click, 19, and her son, Waylon Click, were pronounced dead Sunday at Longview hospitals. Jessica Click died at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center and Waylon died at Longview Regional Medical Center. The wreck happened around 3:30 p.m. on FM 2208, about five miles from Alpine Road. Click was driving north on FM 2208 when her car swerved into the southbound lane of traffic and hit a truck, driven by 24-year-old Christopher Derr of Jefferson. Rescue workers used the Jaws of Life to remove Click from her car. Derr was taken to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview to be treated for injuries. The wreck remained under investigation.
KILGORE — Kilgore Police are investigating a fatal shooting. It happened around 11:30 Sunday night at the Meadow Green Apartment Complex. According to officers, Tracy Lynn Reedy, 50, Kilgore, was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside of the apartment complex. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The unidentified suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information in regards to this crime can contact Detective John Rowe at 903-218-6906. TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Forecasters have issued an overnight hard freeze warning for a four-state region as an Arctic cold front pushes its way through the area. The National Weather Service issued the warning Sunday for parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana from midnight until 10 a.m. Monday. The service says temperatures will range from the teens in northeast Texas, southeast Oklahoma, southwest Arkansas and eastern sections of north-central Louisiana to the low 20s across east Texas and northwest Louisiana. Temperatures began plummeting Saturday as the front moved into the area, bringing light snow and freezing drizzle that coated some highways and bridges with ice. Read the rest of this entry »
SMITH COUNTY — The Smith County Sheriff’s Office have arrested an Arp man in connection with a child sex crime. According to KETK, a Smith County booking report indicated Danny Heldenbrand, 42, was arrested and charged with one count of indecency with a child sexual contact. He was arrested on a warrant issued by the 7th District Court. Heldenbrand is currently in the Smith County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
LONGVIEW — A wreck involving a truck and a train closed a Longview roadway for several hours. It happened around 4:45 Friday morning on Estes Parkway. Police said the Dodge pickup was traveling north bound when it struck the train. The railroad crossing lights were on and the train was moving across Estes Pkwy. There were two people in the truck and both sustained minor injuries. The roadway was briefly closed but has since reopened.
CHEROKEE COUNTY — Emergency crews responded a reported explosion off US Hwy 69, near Love’s Lookout. According to KETK, Department of Public Safety Troopers said the blast happened at an active gas well just before 7:00 Wednesday night. BreitBurn Energy Partners, L.P. owns the well. No injuries were reported. The explosion remains under investigation.
SMITH COUNTY — A three vehicle wreck in Tyler last night leaves an 11-month-old dead and several others injured. It happened just after 5:30 on Hwy 64 West, two miles outside of the Tyler city limits. According to the DPS report, a Jeep Liberty, driven by Jason Howland, 36, Tyler, was traveling west when he drifted into the neighboring lane and struck a Mazda. Howland over-corrected, swerving into oncoming traffic and was struck by a truck. Howland was not injured in the crash, nor was his 36 year-old passenger, Frederick Fitzgerald, of Dallas. Another passenger, identified as 11-month-old Jaylyn Howland, was transported to ETMC-Tyler where she was later pronounced dead. Read the rest of this entry »
HENDERSON COUNTY — Three women were arrested on drug charges following two separate traffic stops in Henderson County. Debra Wade, 57 (pictured) and Sherri Green, 46, were taken into custody in the Trinidad area after midnight Tuesday following an initial traffic violation. The two women were charged with possession of the methamphetamine. Green was also charged with possession of a controlled substance in the form of a pill. HENDERSON – A Kilgore man remains jailed on a murder charge. Marvin Durrell Sanders, 37, of Kilgore, was booked Dec. 25 on $1 million bond, charged with murder. According to the Kilgore News Herald, the initial report says the suspect suddenly and inexplicably approached the Rev. Waylon D. Hunt during a family gathering and shot him at point-blank range. The killing occurred early in the evening. Reportedly, family members had been watching a football game at a residence outside the Kilgore City limits. From initial information, “The guy walked into the shop, put a gun to Hunt’s head and shot him,†Rusk Co. Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Joe Sorrells said. TYLER — An East Texas pastor has died after a heroic act on Christmas Day in Costa Rica. According to KETK, Kelly Clarke of New Covenant Church attempted to rescue a little boy who was drowning when he passed away. He and his family were in Costa Rica doing missionary work. TYLER — Tyler Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man wanted on a deadly conduct charge. Zechariah Aacon Smith, 20, Tyler, is accused of firing shots into a home on west Queen Street around 8:00 last night. No one was home at the time of the shooting. The owners of the residence showed up at the same time of officers and advised them that he knows who the suspect is and that the incident is related to an earlier disturbance in the park between the two. Tyler Police request your help in locating Smith. TYLER — A Chandler man has died after crossing into oncoming traffic and hitting a car head-on. According to Tyler Police, the accident happened just before 11:30 Thursday night on west Grande. James Finkie was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police said it appeared that Finkie lost control of the bike and crossed over into oncoming traffic. He hit a Ford Focus head-on. Officers do not believe alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
CHEROKEE COUNTY — The National Weather Service reports an EF-2 tornado hit Rusk Tuesday. The NWS earlier released storm damage information from the Rusk area and Reklaw. According to KETK, in Reklaw, the Emergency manager of damage reports some outbuildings have been destroyed by Tuesday’s storm. Some heavy equipment damage is also being seen on the east end of the town. There are reports of 3 houses without roofs 5 miles to the south-west of Rusk. The first house is located at CR 2210 near FM 1857. A second house is located at FM 23 and 2159. Information on the third house is limited. There are multiple reports of downed trees and power lines in the area. In Rusk ISD, school was canceled for Wednesday due to minor flooding and power outages,
GLADEWATER — Gladewater Police arrest a man wanted in connection with two recent church burglaries.According to KETK, Gary Dwayne Green, 31, of Gladewater, was taken into custody after he was released from the hospital. Officials said he suffered a medical event when he was reportedly busted breaking into a church. Officers responded to an alarm call at the First United Methodist Church in Gladewater and found Green inside the building. The same church was burglarized on December 10 and December 12. Church members said a Mac computer, flat screen t-v, keyboard and a DVD player were stolen. Those items have not been recovered. Green has been charged with burglary of a building.
UPSHUR COUNTY — An East Texas teenager died Tuesday after she crashed her vehicle four miles south of Gilmer. According to the DPS report, Cherish Kelley, 17, Big Sandy, was headed north on Highway 155 toward Gilmer when she hydroplaned and hit a tow truck traveling in the opposite direction. Kelley was killed in the wreck. The tow truck driver survived the crash. She has has been identified as Jessica Reed, 31, of Lone Star. DPS stated Kelley’s vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed.
GREGG COUNTY — A Gregg County jury found Roger Benefield guilty of harassment of a public servant and sentenced him to 45 years behind bars for spitting on a police officer. According to KETK, Benefield was harassing a female at Magrill Plaza when officer Larry Solomon of the Longview Police Department intervened. Benefield became belligerent with Officer Solomon, eventually spitting on him. Benefield was sentenced as a habitual offender due to having two prior felonies on his record.
LONGVIEW — Police said four people were arrested Sunday morning after trying to burglarize Cash America Pawn in Longview. According to the Longview News-Journal, Bazaree Quintes Brown Jr., 17, and Cleivlend Zeunta Williams, 19, both of Jefferson, and Corterian Jamarion Garrett, 18, and Courtney Glenn Bradley, 19, both of Longview, were charged with burglary of a building after police responded to an alarm at the pawn shop on High Street. TYLER — A Smith County Grand Jury has indicted a local business owner who is accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 14. According to KETK, Grant Edward Cook, 56, of Flint, was indicted December 7 on one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child. He was arrested on July 17, 2017. The suspect is the owner of Grant Cook Music. The incident reportedly took place on July 4 in the 22100 block of Highway 155 S in the Flint area. According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Cook’s girlfriend and two grandchildren were there for the 4th of July and spent the night at the location of the reported assault. The female victim, who is under the age of 14, made an outcry to her sister, who in turn told the grandmother. Read the rest of this entry »
TYLER — A Salvation Army kettle was stolen Saturday night while volunteers were ringing bells at the Wal-Mart on Hwy 64. According to volunteers, a man picked up the entire stand before running away with it. No injuries were reported. This is the last week for the 2017 Kettle Campaign, and The Salvation Army said they have raised only 62% of the $375,000 needed to fund the programs they provide. KILGORE — A Kilgore man was arrested after police said he attempted to pass forged checks at an auto store in November. Aaron Slagle, 37, was charged with forgery and released from jail Dec. 8 on $20,000 bond. According to KETK, Slagle is accused of attempting to pass a $210.49 check with a woman’s name Nov. 24 at ABC Auto Parts in Gladewater. He tried to return the battery he purchased to a Kilgore auto parts store the same day. Three days later, a woman acting on Slagle’s behalf also attempted to return the battery but was denied and questioned by employees. Gregg County sheriff’s deputies recovered five laptops, a printer, blank checks, counterfeit money, drug paraphernalia and an “off-white crystal-like substance” from Slagle’s home in Kilgore, according to a warrant. Several checks “were in the process of being ‘washed’ in order to alter the original” when deputies arrested Slagle.
TYLER — Tyler Police Department announced they are participating in a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) in Tyler, looking for Red Light violators in targeted areas of the City. They said due to the increased volume of traffic during the holidays, drivers have the tendency to become more impatient and often run red lights, which might result in a crash. So far this year, Tyler Police have issued 3,749 citations for a red light violation. The Tyler Municipal Court fine for running a red light is $301. The number of crashes in Tyler this year caused from someone running a red light is 161. The (STEP) program is a Texas funded grant that provides extra traffic enforcement for law enforcement agencies who participate within the guidelines. This enforcement program will run through January 15, 2018.
SMITH COUNTY — Smith County Fire Marshal Connie McCoy-Wasson is asking people to refrain from burning until the area sees a substantial amount of rainfall. There is a chance of rain this weekend. “With the low humidity and high winds, the fire danger is extremely high right now.” she said. With the New Year’s fireworks season approaching, Mrs. McCoy-Wasson cautioned residents who may use fireworks to be extremely careful. If fireworks cause a fire, the person setting them can be held liable, she said. On Wednesday, December 13, the National Weather Service out of Shreveport, La., issued a fire danger statement. PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg Police Department has issued a ‘Be On the Look Out’ (BOLO) for a robbery suspect. According to KETK, Jamiriquan Enalls, 19, is wanted for aggravated robbery. He is believed to be in the south part of the city. Enalls is described as 6’1, 245 pounds. Authorities say he is considered dangerous and not to attempt to apprehend him. Call 911 immediately.
EDGEWOOD — Edgewood police say three runaway teens have been found. According to KETK, they were discovered Monday along CR 3504 and were being evaluated by medical staff. Earlier in the day, police teamed up with other Van Zandt County law enforcement agencies in searching for the three, aged 12 to 16. The teens have been identified as Cheyenne Andrews, Bryan Nyman, and Steven Shumate. Officials took to the air and ground to search for the teens and recruited volunteers to assist.
LONGVIEW — A Texas A&M senior defensive tackle was arrested Sunday morning on several charges. According to KETK, Zaycoven Henderson, 23, of Longview, was a passenger in a car when he was seen pointing a gun at multiple people at a College Station apartment complex. Police pulled the car over as it was attempting to leave and also found marijuana. Authorities say they also found the rifle Henderson was waving in the woods nearby. A release from officers says Henderson threatened at least three people claiming he would kill them. Henderson was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana. Henderson has been suspended indefinitely from team activities as a consequence for his actions.

In Smith County, the contractor for the Lindale Relief Route will be closing all lanes of I-20 (eastbound and westbound) to conduct work on the Toll 49 Northbound Bridge, and to place concrete for the deck of the Mainlane Bridge over I-20. The closure is slated for 9 p.m., Thurs., December 14th to 5 a.m., Fri., December 15th. Local law enforcement will be assisting with work zone traffic control redirecting motorists to the frontage roads. Message boards have been installed to provide advance notice of the closures. TYLER — North-bound Toll 49 has been closed from SH 64 to I-20. This closure is expected to last until 7:00 Wednesday morning. The closure is directly related to the closure of I-20 and the removal of the damaged bridge at FM 849, near Hideaway. Drivers should plan for delays. All north-bound traffic will be diverted onto SH 64. South-bound lanes will remain open. Drivers are asked to obey all message boards and allow for extra time to reach your destination.
TYLER — All lanes of traffic are currently shut down in the 1800 block of Troup Highway due to a box truck striking a guide wire. A power pole was broken and power lines were across the roadway. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes if traveling in this area. Motorists are currently being detoured around this location.
GREGG COUNTY — An East Texas gang member has been sentenced to 11 years behind bars on a deadly conduct charge. According to KETK, Otto Estell, of Longview, was sentenced Monday to 10 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and one year in State Jail. He’s a TYB gang member. The case stems from an October 10, 2016, incident in which Longview police responded to a shots fired call. Police at the scene located two people who matched the suspect’s description, however, the suspects were able to get away. No on was hurt inside the home where shots were fired. Police recovered the weapons used in the shooting and later arrested Estell at Good Shepherd Medical Center after receiving a report of an individual admitted with a gunshot wound to the buttocks. Estell will serve half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
LONGVIEW — A Longview man has been arrested on numerous drug charges. Michael Jermaine Roberson, 25, of Longview was held Tuesday on bonds totaling $108,500, according to the Longview News-Journal. Officers arrested Roberson after watching him as he repeatedly left his apartment to meet with people in their vehicles. Roberson was said to be in possession of heroin, cocaine, marijuana, Xanax, digital scales and a coffee grinder with heroin residue. He was charged with three counts of manufacturing or delivering, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of a controlled substance. Roberson was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and evading arrest. Roberson attempted to outrun officers when they tried to arrest him during a traffic stop.
