Duchene scores winner in 2nd OT, Stars advance to Western Conference final with 2-1 win

DENVER (AP) — Matt Duchene took off down the ice, slid on his knees and pumped his right glove. That's what the video will show anyway. Because his big moment was pretty much a big blur. He just knows what it meant: The Dallas Stars are heading back to the Western Conference final. Duchene scored at 11:42 of the second overtime after being involved in a play that led to a goal disallowed for goaltender interference in the first extra period, and the Stars advanced with a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 6 on Friday night. Duchene, a 2009 draft pick of the Avalanche, secured a loose puck in front of the net and sent it over   ... Read More

I love talking to him,” Bochy, who is three years younger than Washington, said before Friday's game. They are the only managers to take Texas to the World Series. The Rangers won their first championship last year in Bochy's first season with them, and went to back-to-back with Washington   ... Read More

"In this business over a period of time, the message stops hitting home," Treliving said of moving on from Keefe. Well, mainly one, in 2011 against the Cardinals. 2010 against the Giants, Bruce Bochy and his team just (beat) us. Marchand may return from injury for Game 6, says part of playoff hockey is ‘trying to hurt someone’

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand wasn't too outraged over the disputed hit he took that's sidelined him for the past two games. Because in his view, hurting players comes with the territory in the postseason. “The more guys you take out, the more advantage your team has," Marchand said Thursday on the eve of Game 6 against Florida as the Bruins try to avoid playoff elimination. "People don’t say that but that’s just a fact of the game. So every time you step on the ice, someone’s trying to hurt someone. That’s just how it goes in the playoffs.” Marchand may be back in the lineup Friday after being out since being staggered on a hit to his head from   ... Read More

Irish interest in NFL heats up as league scouts more international cities to stage games

LONDON (AP) — Several hundred thousand Irish viewers got a tutorial from Charlie Smyth on the difference between lining up a kick in Gaelic football versus a field goal in American football. Smyth, who had just signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints, humbly told “The Late Late Show's” national audience that an NFL kicker has to react quickly. “You don’t have all day to look at the ball," the 22-year-old Smyth explained. “You just have to go and kick it.” Almost as quickly, Ireland has become part of the NFL's international playbook. With Irish interest in the sport rising, Dublin is under review to potentially join the league's growing list of international cities hosting a regular-season game. "We’ve   ... Read More

NFL schedule makers didn’t seek out a Chiefs game close to a Taylor Swift concert

Creating the NFL schedule is a complicated process that requires tens of thousands of computers coming up with countless possibilities over a process that lasts about four months. There are several sometimes competing factors at play from keeping all of the television partners happy, to competitive balance for teams to stadium availability. One variable that wasn't considered, despite some wild internet conjecture, was making sure Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs had a game scheduled close in location to one of the tour spots for Taylor Swift. “I saw a lot of conspiracy theorists talking about Kansas City at Buffalo middle of the season, right when Taylor’s playing Toronto,” Mike North, the NFL's vice president for broadcast planning, said   ...
