\"\"TYLER – TxDOT continues to remind drivers to stay home as crews remain busy clearing roads of snow and ice. Winter conditions are impacting all roadways in the eight-county Tyler District, which includes Anderson, Cherokee, Gregg, Henderson, Rusk, Smith, Van Zandt, and Wood counties. All resources are deployed with crews working around the clock focusing on clearing higher volume corridors, such as I-20, and trouble spots as they arise. The department said while roads are not technically closed, but all roads have been impacted. With record-breaking low temperatures expected, residents are urged to stay at home and off the roadways.<\/p>\n

– Crews continue to address the roadways, but they will continue to experience freezing as temperatures drop.<\/p>\n

– This is a situation where we are not going to be able to clear all roadways until this event is over. Stay home!<\/p>\n

– Visit DriveTexas.org for updated road conditions.<\/p>\n

– If stranded on the road, stay in your vehicle and call 911.<\/p>\n

Travel is discouraged but If you must drive, check local weather forecasts before departing and visit http:\/\/www.DriveTexas.org<\/a> or call 800-452-9292 to check highway conditions.
\nEnsure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up.
\nGive yourself plenty of time to reach your destination.
\nUse caution when driving on icy or slick roads. Reduce your speed! Remember, bridges and overpasses are the first to freeze.
\nIf you start to slide, ease off the gas pedal or brakes. Steer into the direction of the skid until you feel you have regained traction, then straighten your vehicle.
\nIf stranded, remain in the vehicle and call 911.
\nDrive a safe distance away from TxDOT vehicles as they work to treat and clear roadways.<\/p>\n
