On Monday the department gave a scenario of how the scam works. Typically the fraud begins with a Craig\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s List ad for a job. Once a person responds to the ad, they are contacted and a check is deposited into their checking account. They are then asked to purchase gift cards from various locations and report the numbers back to the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153employer\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. Once that is done, the deposited check  turns out to be fraudulent.
