On Tuesday, East Texas Food Bank&#8217;s Lauren Barnes told KTBB, &#8220;Normaly we have a big kick-off event that is a community event that rallies everyone together. Normally our summer feeding sites are in conjunction with other programs targeted towards children&#8230;so a lot of those programs are canceled for the summer but we know even with these canceled programs there is a huge meal gap for these children.&#8221; <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The program provides free nutritious meals to children and families, and will operate across 23 East Texas community locations. Year round, over 75,000, or one in four children are facing hunger in the 26 counties that the food bank serves. Due to COVID-19, the sites will be drive-thru through August. Families just need to show up. There is no need to register and proof of age or income is not required.
