A ceremony was held on the Tyler square at noon on Monday. In 2016, 145 peace officers died in the U.S. Tyler policeman Don Martin said 19 names were read during the Tyler ceremony. They are the Texas peace officers who died last year. One of the names on the list was 62 year old Gregg County Jailer Robert Ransom. He died on September 30th after suffering a heart attack while helping an inmate who had a medical emergency. As other deputies attempted to revive the inmate Jailer Ransom rushed to retrieve an AED. He collapsed moments later. Both he and the inmate were transported to the hospital where he passed away.
