Heaton, a Republican, plans to run for the seat currently held by Judge Randall Rodgers who has\u00c2\u00a0informally said he plans to retire at the end of his term in December 2018. Heaton has worked as an Assistant District Attorney for the Smith County District Attorney&#8217;s Office since November 2006.
