KETK reports the organization Texas Petition Strategies had been petitioning for such sales.  All that was needed: 426 signatures.  According to the Gregg County elections administrator, the petition was signed by more than 550 people.  Now the city council is required to call an election when members meet next month.<!--more--> <\/p>\n<p>Assistant City Manager Sherry Roberts says, &#8220;We always encourage local shopping. If they could get their groceries locally and buy their beer and wine beverages locally, then they can also get gas locally. The more you buy locally, the more sales tax is remitted to the city.&#8221;  She says that when the city receives more sales tax, it can be allocated to other needs within the community.
