Liberty Utilities has been at the center of a storm over proposed rate hikes. A proposed two-step rate increase would have raised some Tyler customer&#8217;s rates from $27.75 a month to just under $100.00. Smith County home owners would see an increase ranging from 44% to 75%. The company said the increases were needed to maintain facilities and for expansion and improvement projects. The utility&#8217;s town hall meetings will be at Hilton Garden Inn on East Grande.
