On July 13, Tyler Mosquito Control (TMC) sent routine samples to Austin of mosquitoes collected from areas located throughout the City of Tyler, according to city officials.  Results were received on July 19.  One sample batch of mosquitoes taken from the 1400 block of Kidd Drive tested positive for West Nile virus. TMC immediately conducted a door-to-door campaign to inform and educate residents in the area about the virus and preventative measures.<!--more--> <\/p>\n<p>In the continual fight against mosquitoes in the Tyler area, TMC treats standing water with larvicide and insect growth regulator tablets and fogs. TMC will continue these treatment practices for the remainder of mosquito season, according to officials.  \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Finding the West Nile virus in mosquitoes first is a good thing,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Chris Lennon, Code Enforcement manager, in the news release. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153This gives us the time and resources to treat the area and educate people before anyone is infected with the virus.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>All citizens are encouraged to remember the 4 Ds to optimize protection from mosquitoes:<\/p>\n<p>    Deet: use insect repellent while outdoors at all times to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes and other insects.<br \/>\n    Dress: wear long, loose and light-colored clothing \u00e2\u20ac\u201c including pants and long sleeves.<br \/>\n    Drain: drain all standing water in and around the home and office.<br \/>\n    Dusk and Dawn: limit outdoor activities during the dusk and dawn hours as mosquitoes are most active during those times. <\/p>\n<p>Residents may report mosquito breeding grounds to Tyler Mosquito Control by calling (903) 535-0045. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TYLER &#8212; West Nile Virus has turned up in a Tyler testing sample.
