Each year, the National Main Street Center and its Coordinating Program partners announce the list of accredited Main Street America programs in recognition of their exemplary commitment to preservation-based economic development and community revitalization through the Main Street Approach, according to a news release from the city.<!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>Thedepartment\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s performance is annually evaluated by the Texas Main Street Program of the Texas Historical Commission, which works in partnership with the National Main Street Center to identify the local programs that meet ten performance standards.  City officials say evaluation criteria identify the communities that are building comprehensive and sustainable revitalization efforts and include standards such as fostering strong public-private partnerships, securing an operating budget, tracking programmatic progres and actively preserving historic buildings.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153This accreditation means a great deal to us,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Main Street Department Leader Beverly Abell in the news release.  The Main Street Department works hand-in-hand with the non-profit Heart of Tyler organization to foster downtown revitalization.
