The pursuit began Saturday afternoon on Loop 323 in Tyler and continued onto County Road 45. The driver, later identified as Kenny Leroy Johnson, 37, drove into a wooded area where he ditched the car and fled on foot. DPS helicopters and Smith County K-9 units were called in and Johnson was apprehended a short time later. Tyler police also assisted in the pursuit.
