\"Tyler<\/a>TYLER \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Chief Gary Swindle has promoted four supervisors. On Friday, Chief Swindle promoted Sergeant Paul Robeson and Sergeant Jon Thornhill to Lieutenant. He also promoted Officer James Freeman and Investigator Ethan Johnson to Sergeant. <\/p>\n

Lt. Paul Robeson: began his police career at the Tyler Police Department in May of 2002. The following year he was chosen as Rookie of the Year. Since then he has worked in several units and held various titles including: patrol officer, property crimes investigator, crimes against children investigator, traffic officer, honor
\nguard member, accident investigator, TCOLE instructor, and field training officer. In 2011 he was promoted to sergeant where he worked on second shift patrol. As a patrol sergeant he was one of the supervisors for the honor guard and was also a Police Training Supervisor. He was often called upon to be an Acting Lieutenant for
\npatrol. Then in 2014, he transferred to the Youth Crimes Unit, which he currently supervises.<\/p>\n

Lt. Jon Thornhill: was hired with the Tyler Police Department in May of 1996. Jon worked in the patrol division until November of 2001 when he was assigned as a Crimes Against Children Investigator at the Children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Advocacy Center of Smith County. Jon served an investigator at the CAC for five years. He was selected to attend the Texas DPS Polygraph School in Austin. Upon returning from this school, Jon completed his internship as a polygraph examiner while being assigned to the Youth Crimes\/ Forgery Division. In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant was assigned to the Integrity Division as an audit and inspections supervisor. In 2009, Jon was assigned as the Supervisor of the Integrity Unit where he currently
\nserves.<\/p>\n

Sgt. James Freeman: began his career in law enforcement with the Dallas Police Department in 2001 where he attended the basic eight month Academy and field training program. His first beat assignment was the West Dallas Housing Projects where he learned basic patrol skills. In May 2003, James moved back to his hometown of Tyler and was hired by the Tyler Police Department. He was assigned to evening shift patrol. In 2004, James became a member of the department Honor Guard where remains a member to this day. In 2005, he was accepted as a Field Training Officer and in 2007 was selected to be cross trained as a major crimes investigator. James returned to patrol, continuing his role as a Field Training Officer and then being selected as one of the first new Police Training Officers. He continued to train numerous Officers over the next nine years, some who are now Sergeants. In June 2015, James was selected to join the Bike Team where he has served for the past year.<\/p>\n

Sgt. Ethan Johnson: has been employed at the Tyler Police Department since December of 2009. Throughout his career in Tyler he has been assigned to several different positions, such as a patrol officer, narcotics Investigator, and gang Investigator. He is a bi-lingual officer and is always willing to help in situations at the PD or at a scene where officers need a translator.
