According to KETK, the Gladewater Police Department says Alisha Duvall Knox and her husband, Ronnie Arthur Knox, were arrested and charged with cruelty of livestock animals after a grand jury indicted them.   Ronnie Knox was taken into custody on April 1 and Alisha on April 7. Both suspects were booked into the Gregg County Jail and bonds are set at $10,000.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Police said nine horses were seized from a small pen on Rodeo Street on February 21. They were visibly weak and extremely thin from lack of proper nourishment, according to officials. The horses were taken by animal control to Safe Haven Equine Rescue for rehabilitation.   One horse had to be put down because of malnourishment. The other eight horses are expected to recover.  <\/p>\n<p>The status of the civil seizure is still ongoing. On March 1, the horses were turned over to Safe Haven by Judge Donna Blaylock. The decision has been appealed by the Knoxes, and a new hearing has been scheduled for May.  Meanwhile, the eight surviving horses remain at Safe Haven until a final decision is made regarding their custody.   Donations are being accepted for the continued care of the animals.
