That’s according to the Longview News-Journal. Tom Eberhart, co-owner of Eberhart-Miller Real Estate Services in Longview, said Monday that Brookshire closed last week on the property in the Park Central retail and office development. Park Central is about 50 acres total. It is bordered by Hinsley Park on the east and a new Hilton Garden Inn on the west. A Super Sonic restaurant recently opened at the extension’s intersection with Hawkins Parkway.

Eberhart has said Brookshire plans to build what he called a “flagship store” on the property. And, he said, there have been “a lot of people interested in buying” in Park Central, based on whether Brookshire would proceed.

In October, Eberhart said Brookshire’s decision to build there could hinge on the results of an election to allow the city of Longview to sell Hinsley Park to a developer. Voters in November gave the Longview City Council approval to move ahead on that, and SDI Realty Advisors has announced a Kroger Marketplace supermarket would anchor the Hinsley Crossing development it’s planning for the park property. “(Brookshire stores) have competition everywhere they go,” Eberhart said, adding that Brookshire is different from what Kroger will be offering.

Brookshire spokeswoman Rebecca Sanders confirmed Monday the company had closed on the property, but said it does not “currently have a defined banner or timeline on the site.” In response to a question about why the company is proceeding with the project given its proximity to the planned Kroger and other stores in the area, Sanders said, “At this point, we have only purchased the property. No plans have been approved, and no timeline has been set. There are many factors that go into adding stores (whether through construction or acquisition), so those things will be considered as plans are developed.”

LONGVIEW — Brookshire Grocery Co. has purchased about 8 acres on the Fourth Street extension in Northeast Longview, but the Tyler company is mum on its plans for the parcel.
