\"goodmanmuseum-2\"<\/a>TYLER — Holiday decorations, miniature trains, re-enactors in period costumes, carolers, special exhibits, and more will be available free to the public today as the downtown Tyler museums hold their annual Holiday Open House from 4:00 to 8:00pm. The Goodman-LeGrand Museum (pictured), the Cotton Belt Depot, Discovery Science Place, Gallery Main Street, the Smith County Historical Society and the McClendon House will open their doors to the public in celebration of the Holiday season. According to a news release, each facility will feature its own special exhibits and activities during the event. All participating facilities will be easy to spot: eight-foot-tall illuminated snowmen will be at each site. <\/p>\n

The Goodman-LeGrand Museum at 624 N. Broadway will be decked out in period d\u00c3\u00a9cor and populated by reenactors in costume. Carolers will sing traditional Christmas songs and horse-drawn carriage rides will be available for a fee. Refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n

The Cotton Belt Depot at 210 E. Oakwood will have its traditional display of antique and miniature rail exhibits at the Train Museum. Refreshments will be provided.<\/p>\n

At 308 N. Broadway, Discovery Science Place will offer young visitors the opportunity to participate in a hands-on experiment, and face painters will be on hand. In addition to enjoying refreshments, visitors will be free to tour exhibits and activities throughout the facility.<\/p>\n

Gallery Main Street at 110 W. Erwin will offer refreshments for all, plus holiday coloring books and crayons for children. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see the gallery\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s current exhibit, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Silver Lining.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d The Open House will be the first opportunity for the public to purchase Tyler Main Street\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new Christmas ornament series. The gold-plated brass ornament will feature the People\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Petroleum Building.<\/p>\n

The Smith County Historical Society at 125 S. College will serve refreshments and offer visitors the opportunity to see a PowerPoint show of Christmases in Tyler during the 1950s and 1960s.<\/p>\n

The McClendon House at 806 W. Houston will provide a glimpse into Christmases past in Tyler. The event will include tours of the home with docents in each room to provide information, carolers, musicians (including a violinist and Filipino choir), re-enactors, exhibits and door prizes.<\/p>\n

Beverly Abell, director of the City of Tyler\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Main Street Department, noted that Liberty Hall will show one of its most popular movies of the year, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153White Christmas,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at 7 p.m. A ticket is required to see the movie; Abell recommends purchasing tickets online because the movie classic is always a sell-out.<\/p>\n
