The accident happened just before 1:00 Monday afternoon on state Highway 103, about four miles east of Lufkin. Killed was Carl Hammerly, 49, of Broaddus, and Sarah Melinda Rya, 68, and James Harvey Ryan, 70, both of Etoile. The Department of Public safety reports it appears as if Hammerly was trying to pass a vehicle when he hit Rya&#8217;s vehicle head-on.
