\"Road<\/a>LONGVIEW \u00e2\u20ac\u201c TxDOT and the city of Longview are drawing your attention to a couple of roadwork projects. Motorists who travel FM 2087 at the Sabine River in Longview will have a slower commute at the end of the week as planned work requires temporary lane closures. The Texas Department of Transportation says in a news release that the work will be conducted over two days, weather permitting. According to TxDOT, crews will be taking soil samples for the proposed bridge design on Thursday and Friday. Work will be conducted on the bridge located half a mile north of the Interstate Highway 20 Frontage Road. Motorists can expect closures between 8:00am and 5:00pm both days. <\/p>\n

To avoid delays, motorists are urged to use alternate routes to reach their destinations. Message boards and other signage are in place to inform motorists of the work. Flaggers will provide traffic control to help motorists navigate through the work zone. The bridge is scheduled for replacement in summer 2016 at a cost of just over $2 million. Construction will take approximately 18 months to complete, according to TxDOT.<\/p>\n

Motorists may also want to avoid traveling around I-20 in Longview on Sunday morning, September 13, or plan for extra travel time to their destination. TxDOT Crews will be closing I-20 eastbound lanes to replace a sign on a bridge over the highway east of US 259. Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto the south frontage road at Loop 281 West and back onto I-20 just past Loop 281 East. Manually operated signals and flaggers will be used to help keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible, according to a news release from the city. Work on the project should begin at daybreak and is expected to be completed by noon on Sunday.
