The Longview native served the city 42 years. He had been police chief since 2011. Assistant Chief Mike Bishop will serve as interim police chief. A set schedule has not been determined for filling the police chief&#8217;s post. According to the Longview News-Journal,  Dingler began his career with Longview as a police officer in 1973. Over the years, he \\worked assignments in patrol, traffic, training, jail services and narcotics.
