\"Tom<\/a>TYLER — Dr. Tom Johnson and Dr. Tim Drain have assumed new responsibilities at Tyler Junior College.<\/p>\n

Johnson, executive director of TJC Campus Police and director of the law enforcement academy, has been named assistant vice president for student services. In this new role, Johnson will work with key leaders from the institution, including the dean for enrollment management and the college registrar, to promote access through various enrollment strategies, including a more focused approach to serving our nation\u2019s veterans. He will continue to oversee TJC Campus Police and work with the TJC judicial department, all focused on campuses where civility and safety are paramount. He will also work with TJC Career Services to strengthen the services provided to students to serve the region\u2019s business and industry.<\/p>\n

For the past nine years, Johnson has served TJC in various instruction and leadership capacities including: faculty, managing director, department chair, associate dean, division director and executive director. Prior to joining TJC, Johnson was employed by the Houston Community College System and Sam Houston State University. He spent 20 years at the Houston Police Department where he retired as director of planning and research.<\/p>\n

Johnson possesses five academic degrees including: psychology, law enforcement, criminology\/sociology, criminal justice management and higher education administration, and he has completed post-graduate work in history.<\/p>\n

\"Tim<\/a>As assistant vice president for student engagement, Drain will work with individuals and groups on campus to enhance the student life aspect of the College. He will maintain his role as athletics director, and will now also oversee student activities, TJC Cheer, and the internationally famous Apache Belles. Drain is now in his 16th year in athletics administration at TJC, and his 13th as athletics director. Tyler Junior College has won a total of 51 NJCAA national championships since 1946, which ranks it fourth in the history of NJCAA. Twenty-four of those have come under Drain\u2019s tenure, with 19 of those coming with Drain as athletics director. Drain has served as the NJCAA Region XIV Women\u2019s Director since 2001. He is also the chair of both the service and recognition and women\u2019s tennis committees for the NJCAA, and has been the tournament director for 21 NJCAA national championships, including men\u2019s and women\u2019s soccer (11), baseball (8), and women\u2019s tennis (2). Drain currently serves as the president of National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators and was awarded the 2010 George E. Killian Award of Excellence from the NJCAA. In 2012, he was named Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year in the Community College\/Junior College division, and his latest accomplishment came with his induction into the NJCAA Men\u2019s Soccer Hall of Fame in 2013 for his contributions to the sport.<\/p>\n

Dr. Drain is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he received bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees in kinesiology and earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration in 1998.<\/p>\n

Johnson and Drain will continue to serve as vital members of the TJC Academic and Student Affairs Council, and both will continue to report directly to Dr. Juan E. Mejia, TJC provost and vice president for academic and student affairs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
