TYLER — East Texans Friday celebrated the spirit of giving through National Philanthropy Day 2014, hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) \u2013 East Texas chapter, according to an AFP news release. The annual event was held at Tyler’s Willow Brook Country Club. Margaret and James Perkins received the award for Outstanding Philanthropists, based on their legacy of giving with an emphasis on higher education in East Texas. <\/p>\n
Jennifer Carson was honored as Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser in recognition of a dream fulfilled \u2013 and still advancing \u2013 through The Children\u2019s Park of Tyler and the Children are a Gift Foundation, according to the release. The Women\u2019s Fund of Smith County received the award for Outstanding Philanthropic Organization. With more than 240 members, this giving circle has provided grants totaling approximately $686,000 since 2009. <\/p>\n
