In just the last two days, BBB Serving Central East Texas has received dozens of phone calls from consumers in Tyler area who have received these fraudulent calls. The IRS has put out an alert on the scam saying: \u201cThe IRS will always send taxpayers a written notification of any tax due via the U.S. mail. The IRS never asks for credit card, debit card or prepaid card information over the telephone\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The following is a transcript of the automated message residents are receiving:<br \/>\n\u201cThis is an automated message from the Investigation Department of Internal Revenue Services. We are sorry to inform you that I.R.S has filed a case against you with criminal allegations. It is a very serious concern and will be followed up with your arrest and a lien on all you property. We want you to call us back or your attorney who can stand by you against eleventh judicial members in the courthouse to save you. If you need assistance to resolve matter and avoid the worriment, you can talk to one above investigation officers. You can call us back on 206 414 4126, I repeat this 206 414 4126. If we do not hear from you then you will be responsible for your arrest and this situation upon you. If you have a great day.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>The fake IRS agents have been known to use a computer program to make the real IRS phone number appear on caller ID, quote false badge numbers, and use call centers that use background noise to seem legitimate. These scammers may also have the last four digits of a person\u2019s Social Security number among other personal information. Victims and targets of this scam have also reported receiving calls from people claiming<br \/>\nScam artists will use all kinds of deceptive practices to get what the information they want\u201d, said Mechele Agbayani Mills, President and CEO of BBB Serving Central East Texas. \u201cJust because someone uses a 202 area code does not mean they are calling form a Washington D.C. address.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can go to bbb.org to get tips on how to be a savvy consumer.
