TYLER \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Three Tyler-area groups are partnering today \u00e2\u20ac\u201d National Voter Registration Day \u00e2\u20ac\u201d to get people signed up to vote in the November elections. According to a press release from the League of Women Voters of Tyler\/Smith County (LWV\/TSC), the theme for this year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s National Voter Registration Day is Democracy in America. Organizers say that nationally, 471 Congress seats, 36 governors, governors, 46 state legislatures, and many other decisions will be on ballots in this year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s midterm elections. According to LWV\/TSC President Mary Claire Rowe, Mid-term elections never garner the response of Presidential years. That\u00ef\u00bf\u00bds why the League is so focused on getting potential voters registered and getting them out to the polls in November.<\/p>\n
The goal for the 2014 National Voter Registration Day is to increase participation by encouraging Americans to register to vote and come to the polls this fall, according to the news release. Locally, in cooperation with the Gamma Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., and Smith County Area Libraries (SALT), LWV\/TSC will register voters in nine locations around Smith County on Tuesday.
