GREGG COUNTY — Alcohol and drug paraphernalia were found at the scene of a wreck that injured two Longview sanitation workers last week. According to the Longview News-Journal, the information was contained in a search warrant obtained Wednesday in the case, in which an automobile ran into the back of a sanitation truck. Longview police officer Jeremy Higginbotham said Susan Michelle Skinner, 46, had open cans of Bud Light beer in her sedan when she collided with the back of a sanitation truck at 3 p.m. June 30 on Alpine Road. When Skinner was treated for a head injury suffered in the wreck, a pipe used for smoking methamphetamine was found in her possession, according to Higginbotham.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a fundraising account has been set up to raise money for the two victims, Dennis Montgomery, 33, and Darron Crane, 46. Both men suffered significant leg injuries. The collision led to the hospitalization of Montgomery and Crane.<\/p>\n
The Longview Fire Department used air bags and the Jaws of Life to rescue Montgomery, who was trapped between the back of the sanitation truck and the front of the car. Crane was thrown several feet from the truck, according to a police report.<\/p>\n
Higginbotham interviewed Skinner at Good Shepherd after a search warrant from the 188th District Court was issued for her blood.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe said that she was very tired and had worked many hours at the bar where she works,\u201d he said. \u201cI asked her if she had taken any drugs or had any alcoholic beverages, and she said she drank one bottle of Bud Light beer at noon on this same day. I asked her about the drug pipe and she stated that she did not know what that was.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Higginbotham, Skinner said she did not remember the accident and may have fallen asleep. Charges are pending a toxicology report.<\/p>\n
