Nine programs across four Tyler ISD campuses earned Sweepstakes honors. These programs include the Hubbard Middle School varsity choir; Moore MST Magnet School varsity choir, non-varsity orchestra and varsity orchestra; John Tyler High School varsity orchestra; and the Robert E. Lee High School varsity and non-varsity bands, as well as varsity and non-varsity orchestras. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>There are four program areas of competition:  Band, Choir, Orchestra and Theatre. School programs competing in these areas are judged in two categories: concert (performance of practiced materials) and sight reading (performance of material seen only on the day of the competition). Judges give the performance ratings on a scale of Exemplary, Superior, Good, Fair and Poor; with Exemplary being the highest score. If a program\u2019s performance earns Exemplary marks in both concert and sight reading categories it is awarded the honor of \u201cSweepstakes,\u201d the highest honor UIL awards in music competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery secondary campus fine arts program competed in UIL this year and we are very proud of the hard work our students and directors put into preparing for the competitions,\u201d George Faber, Tyler ISD director of Fine Arts, said. \u201cWe continue to see positive results from their dedication to excellence every year. This year, this dedication resulted in an amazing nine Sweepstakes honors.
