Not only are permits of all types (commercial and residential building, electrical, plumbing, etc.) increasing, but the number of inspections is on the rise as well.  \u201cThis rise in permits and inspections means a great boost for our local economy,\u201d said Development Services Engineer Michael Wilson. \u201cThese homes and businesses bring in more jobs and area attractions.\u201d   <!--more--> <\/p>\n<p>Building Safety Month brings attention to constructing safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient buildings and homes along with the important role code officials play in public building safety, according to a city news release.  There are weekly themes to broaden awareness of these issues.<\/p>\n<p>    * May 5-11 &#8211; Keeping Fire in its Place<br \/>\n    * May 12-18 \u2013 Helping Homeowners Weather the Storm<br \/>\n    * May 19-25 \u2013 Surround Your Building with Safety<br \/>\n    * May 26-31 \u2013 Building a Brighter, More Efficient Tomorrow<\/p>\n<p>Officials say residents should apply for a building permit when:<\/p>\n<p>    * Constructing a building greater than 200 square feet in area<br \/>\n    * Installing new mechanical, electrical, and or plumbing systems<br \/>\n    * Putting up signage<br \/>\n    * Building at Lake Tyler<br \/>\n    * Pouring a new driveway<br \/>\n    * Building a swimming pool<br \/>\n    * Remodeling other than new finishes (wall and floor coverings, painting, etc.), and<br \/>\n    * Clearing or grading land<\/p>\n<p>Permit applications can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.CityofTyler.org\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.CityofTyler.org<\/a> on the Development Services page and in person at the Development Services office at 423 W. Ferguson.
