I am so proud of both of these AVID students.”

To qualify, students must participate in an approved college readiness program in grades 11 and 12. Tyler ISD’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program is one of these programs. AVID focuses on providing access to four-year colleges for students capable of completing a college preparatory path, so that they achieve success in a rigorous curriculum.

The goal of the Dell Scholars Program is to improve the outcome of underserved students through the opportunities a bachelor’s degree can provide. The program provides not only financial assistance, but also resources and mentoring to ensure that students have the support they need to earn a college degree.

The Dell Scholars Program is funded by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, a private family foundation that is not affiliated with the computer company Dell, Inc. The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation has committed nearly $850 million to programs that foster high-quality public education since the foundation was established in 1999.

TYLER — Two John Tyler High School seniors have been awarded with Dell Scholars Program scholarships recently.
