ACS is state of the art traffic control equipment and software that allows for the adjustment of signal timing in real time given traffic conditions, according to a city news release. Officials say Tyler was among the first cities nationwide to deploy this traffic mitigation tool.

The equipment purchase includes Iteris Vector Sensors, which are used for advanced vehicle detection, and 5.8 GHz Dual band radios that are used by the ACS System to communicate with the controllers in the field. The final items are installation parts needed to install the ACS System and cameras at the remaining intersections. “The goal of the ACS is to help maintain good traffic flow through the main corridors of Tyler, said City Engineer Carter Delleney. “Front Street is one of the main truck routes through town, so it’s important to keep traffic moving smoothly.”

ACS has already been installed at several major corridors including:

    * Broadway from Loop 323 to Cumberland Road
* Beckham Avenue from Houston Street to Golden Road
* Front Street from Beckham Avenue to Glenwood Street
* West Loop 323 from Old Jacksonville Highway to Robertson Drive
* East Loop 323 from Donnybrook Avenue to East Commerce Street
* North West Loop 323 from Highway 31 to Gentry Parkway (US 69)

Future plans for deployment of their state of the art traffic equipment include the following corridors:

· 4th and 5th Streets from College to Beckham
· Broadway from Houston Street to Amherst

TYLER — The Tyler City Council Wednesday approved the acquisition of the traffic control equipment Iteris in order to complete the Front Street Adaptive Control System (ACS).
