Due to the icy weather, the free bulky item collection has been extended to Friday, March 14.   Bulky items that will be picked up at no charge include furniture, appliances, carpet,  fence material, up to four noncommercial vehicle tires, old toys and other large items that would normally require a special fee. No liquid waste will be picked up. Paint must be dried out with oil dry or kitty litter.   <!--more--> <\/p>\n<p>There is a possibility that citizens\u2019 bulky items may be picked up on a different day from their regularly scheduled garbage collection.  Be advised that you will not need to call the Solid Waste Office after placing bulky items at the curb.   The Recycling Center is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is located at 418 N. Bois D\u2019Arc Ave. in downtown Tyler. The following items are accepted:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Scrap metal (copper, aluminum, brass and steel)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Copper wire (extension cords, wiring, power cords, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Steel and tin cans (rinsed)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Used motor oil, antifreeze and batteries<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Clear, Green and Brown Glass bottles and Jars (must be rinsed with lids removed, NO MIRRORS, NO BLUE COLORED GLASS)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Aluminum Cans (no pie plates)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Cardboard (single layer and corrugated)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Newspapers, magazines, phone books, ads, junk mail and office paper<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Electronics (NO TV\u2019s)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Printer cartridges<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Cell phones and phone chargers<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         #1 and #2 plastic containers (examples: soda and water bottles, milk and detergent bottles)<\/p>\n<p>Residents are encouraged to contact the Habitat for Humanity ReStore or Goodwill Industries before disposing of unwanted items that are in good condition. Computers and other electronics can be recycled at any Tyler Goodwill drop off on weekdays or at the Tyler Recycling Collection Center from Wednesday through Saturday.
