The Tyler Rose keynoted the 13th Annual City Wide Black History Program Saturday evening at the Rose Garden Center, organized by the African-American Cultural Events Committee. Going back to his early days in the Tyler area, Campbell mixed reminiscences about his life with his personal philosophy. Campbell said there have been three keys to his success; God, the way his mom and dad raised him, and the fact that he came from Tyler. The high school, college, and pro football legend offered up such comments as \u201cThere\u2019s nothing special about me,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m just a citizen of this great country,\u201d and \u201cI try to do my best.\u201d <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Campbell said he knew he was destined to be a leader, but emphasized the importance of teamwork by telling the crowd, \u201cIt\u2019s all about we.\u201d He added, \u201cMy name may be on the front door, but what\u2019s important is what\u2019s going on behind that door.\u201d Reflecting on interactions with children, Campbell said it\u2019s important to sign to sign autographs because parents will remember how you treat their kids. He closed by telling attendees, \u201cWe\u2019re all from Tyler, Texas \u2014 we\u2019re all family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also at the event, postal officials unveiled the new Black History stamp, featuring pioneering Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm.
