ANDERSON COUNTY — An Anderson County Jail inmate is charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a public servant after injuring two jailers. Crystal Ann Torrez, 28, was arrested by the Palestine Police Department on Jan. 19 for multiple charges, including theft, fraud, possession of a controlled substance, failure to identify a fugitive from justice and driving while license invalid, according to the Palestine Herald-Press.<\/p>\n
\u201cApparently, she wanted to commit suicide, so two female jailers attempted to dress her out in suicide clothing about 2:30 a.m. Saturday,\u201d Taylor said. \u201cIf an inmate threatens suicide, there are a lot of items that they can use to hurt themselves, so we dress them out in a gown and put them in an observation cell.\u201d<\/p>\n
Torrez began to fight the jailers, giving one a broken wrist and the other a laceration and bruising to her face, Taylor said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe wrist fracture happened when they took her to the ground. The other officer got kicked in the face while trying to restrain the inmate,\u201d Taylor said. \u201cUnfortunately, working in this jail is hazardous because we are not working with friendly and cooperative people. The jail staff have a difficult job managing people who got arrested. But they handled the situation despite the use of force they had to use.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
