Ellis is a former Smith County Assistant District Attorney who now runs his own law practice. According to press materials, he decided to run for judge because he believes the County Court at Law is in bad shape and needs reform. \u201cThe court is slow and inefficient, wasting taxpayer dollars and the time of everyone involved. Smith County citizens deserve better. We must demand better.\u201d Current County Court at Law Judge Tom Dunn is not seeking re-election.
