HENDERSON — Rusk County officials held their third traffic summit in the last two months last week. This time, according to KETK, they focused on teen drivers and how to better educate them about the importance of staying alert while driving. The summits were prompted by the unusually high rate of traffic fatalities in Rusk County this year. <\/p>\n
County Judge Joel Hale says 8 of the 10 Henderson area-based trooper positions have been filled, with the other two spots being filled by October 1st. He says traffic safety in Rusk County is a priority but it is up to each individual to make the right choices, while behind the wheel. Hale comments, “Troopers don’t like having to go to somebody’s house and tell them that they’ve lost a child or lost a parent, lost a spouse — and certainly, I wouldn’t want to hear that either, and I know none of our citizens do.” Hale says the next traffic meeting is scheduled for October 10th, when attendees will discuss handing out awareness wristbands at all Rusk County high school football games. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
