Mabry announced.  In the 2014 results, UT Tyler is tied for 22nd among public universities listed in the West region, which includes institutions in Texas, California, and 13 other states. The West region is the largest region the publication uses to categorize institutions.  \u201cWe are excited to see UT Tyler once again ranked among the best universities in the western United States,\u201d President Mabry said. \u201cWe rank higher this year, and we can attribute that to the amazing work of our faculty and staff who strive to make this the quality university that it is.\u201d <!--more--> <\/p>\n<p>UT Tyler rose in the rankings seven places from the 2013 evaluation, which showed the university tied for 29th among the public universities. Rankings for the survey are based upon graduation and retention rates, peer assessment, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.<\/p>\n<p>UT Tyler\u2019s assessment among peer institutions improved, as did the university\u2019s graduation rate. In addition, the peer assessment score was the highest among Texas public universities listed. The score ranks a school\u2019s undergraduate academic excellence. It is determined by an academic peer assessment survey given to top academics including presidents, provosts and deans of admissions. This peer academic group judges intangibles at peer institutions such as faculty dedication to teaching, according to the publication.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur faculty and staff are constantly looking for ways to improve academic offerings, student life and overall quality, while developing innovative teaching techniques that resonate with today\u2019s students. These elements of quality are fueling our record growth. And everhigher rankings such as this let us know our dedication is being noticed on the national stage,\u201d President Mabry added.<\/p>\n<p>UT Tyler also held the best student-to-faculty ratio among the Texas public universities listed.
