The Smith County Fire Marshal tells KETK the extension was voted on Tuesday morning by the County Commissioners Court.  Grilling is permitted under the current burn ban with extreme caution and only within a vessel specifically designed for the preparation of food that contains all open flames and flammable materials.  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>Under the current burn ban the following activities are prohibited:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Outdoor burning<br \/>\n\u2022 Burning in barrels<br \/>\n\u2022 Disposal of lit tobacco products<br \/>\n\u2022 Use of fireworks<br \/>\n\u2022 Welding<br \/>\n\u2022 Campfires<br \/>\n\u2022 Any other activity that could result in an outdoor fire<\/p>\n<p>Factors in determining the need for a burn ban include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Keetch-Byram Drought Index<br \/>\n\u2022 The current temperature, humidity, and wind speed<br \/>\n\u2022 The weather forecast <\/p>\n<p>The current drought index is 654, and the county historically issues burn bans when it is at or near 700.
