Garland police say that Casey Daniel Smith, 31, of Kemp was killed when he threatened the officer with a crowbar. The officer was working security at a Wal-Mart store in Garland, northeast of Dallas. Smith was shot in the chest and died Sunday at a hospital.  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>Authorities say Smith drove to the store in a stolen Cadillac. The car was taken Saturday from the woman in the East Texas town of Eustace. She was struck by the carjacker.  Garland police say the officer, a 19-year veteran, has been put on administrative duty during a review of the shooting. He hasn&#8217;t been identified.<\/p>\n<p>The Henderson County Sheriff\u2019s Office had been seeking Smith, the husband of a Mabank woman who was arrested on Saturday. KETK reports Brandi Smith was arrested on charges of evading arrest, detention in a motor vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday morning around 1:15, Eustace police attempted to make a traffic stop on a white pickup truck with a flatbed attached that was operated by a Casey Smith. In the passenger seat was the suspect\u2019s wife.  The flatbed pickup had been recently stolen from an air conditioning company in Mabank, and Smith had active felony warrants for his arrest. He has a lengthy criminal history.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say a pursuit began during which Casey Smith reportedly crashed the pickup into a police vehicle and allegedly tossed a backpack containing syringes and methamphetamine out a window. At one point, officials say, he let his wife out of the vehicle before trying to hit the<br \/>\npolice vehicle again, reportedly missing by inches. He then allegedly fled on foot. Brandi Smith was booked into the Henderson County Jail with bonds set at $22,500.<\/p>\n<p>Casey Smith later emerged as the suspect in a robbery on County Road 2912. An 82-year-old woman said the suspect told her his wife was in trouble and had been arrested and that he was trying to get some help.
