In order to get a license, DPS mandates the completion of a minimum ten-hour class, taught by a DPS certified CHL instructor. A bill from State Representative Dan Flynn of Van would cut that course down to only four hours. According to Flynn, \u201cStudents would still be required to pass a written exam as proof of competency in the classroom instructional portion. That would be, I think, the core element there, that, if they passed the test, they\u2019ve obviously learned the course.\u201d Opponents would like to see more ongoing training.
