During a court break, Nicky Charune Agnew, 37, of Dallas, left the Smith County courthouse and never returned, according to Civil Coordinator Terry Cockrum. The 7th District Court called for a lunch recess at around 10:45am and resumed at 1:00. Judge Kerry L. Russell sentenced Agnew to life behind bars following a returned guilty verdict by the jury. KETK reports the convict had been in court for a possession of a controlled substance charge. <\/p>\n<p>According to state law, if the defendant does not return during trial, the court is allowed to proceed. Agnew was not held by bailiffs because he had bonded out on $150,000. Cockrum stated Agnew had at least eight criminal prior convictions with the majority in Dallas County. Agnew remains at large.
