LONGVIEW — Funeral services are pending today for former Gregg County Sheriff Tom Welch. Welch, 83, was sheriff from 1973 until December 1979, when he resigned. He was found dead in his Gregg County home Monday afternoon. <\/p>\n
In 1979, Welch along with former county commissioner Bill Satterwhite, Justice of the Peace Charles Cashell and former deputies Bill Roach and Jim Cochran were convicted in Tyler federal court of official corruption.
