The living conditions of many children in East Texas are worse. The figures from new 2010 data released this past week, thousands of area children are impoverished, with no health insurance, and relying on government assistance for food.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report in the Longview News-Journal, 39% of Texas mothers received no, or very late, prenatal care. Rates were higher in most East Texas counties. Gregg County\u2019s rate of child poverty topped the statewide rate with just shy of 30% of children 17 and younger in poverty. The region\u2019s highest rate, however, was 35%, in Marion County.
