The action was taken by Dr. Cornell Thomas just weeks after it was announced the college\u2019s accrediting agency had placed the school on warning. According to a statement on the school\u2019s website, \u201cThe Board of Trustees of Jarvis Christian College is announcing that Dr. Cornell Thomas, President, will be pursuing other interests and is leaving Jarvis after three years of service.  This decision is effective as of December 27, 2011. The board would like to thank Dr. Thomas for his contributions and wish him and his family the best in their new endeavors.  The board has plans for succession in place and will be making a decision regarding Dr. Thomas\u2019 replacement soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the website, \u201cCarolyn Hernandez, senior adviser to the president, and Reginald Dickens, vice president for administration and finance, are coordinating the \u201cday-to-day activities at the college,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Hawkins college was placed on a six-month warning by the Southern Association of Colleges and School Commission on Colleges, in December after not being in compliance with several core requirements, mostly related to finances and audits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HAWKINS \u2013 The president of Jarvis Christian College has resigned.
