Rep. Jay Dean announced on Monday his $5,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity, kicking off the campaign to support their Beat the Heat program. The program was started in 2011 by Dean after East Texas endured record-breaking temperatures and one of the worst droughts in its history. Through Beat the Heat, seniors, veterans, families and others in need have access to life-saving air conditioning.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m asking businesses, civic organizations, churches, and individuals across East Texas to partner with us,\u201d Dean said. \u201cEvery dollar donated will help provide comfort, safety, and hope to someone facing the dangerous summer heat.\u201d<\/p>\n
